Dutch prime minister’s party wants ‘refugee-free’ neighbourhood for themselves

Serbia: Refugees battle the cold with song and dance at Croatia border crossing

20 October 2015

Around 2,000 refugees and migrants attempted to pass the time while waiting to cross the border into Croatia from the Serbian border town of Berkasovo, Tuesday.

In the Netherlands, the VVD is the biggest party in the coalition government. VVD politician Mark Rutte is prime minister.

Dutch right-wing daily De Telegraaf usually supports the VVD. However, on 19 October 2015 they reported about plans to house refugees in The Hague.

The government asks villages, towns and cities everywhere in the Netherlands to provide accomodation for refugees, eg, in former army barracks. In The Hague, an alderman of a local political party tried to house refugees in the Julianakazerne, formerly army barracks, now empty. However, the VVD, also represented in the The Hague local government, stopped that plan which would have housed refugees in a posh neighbourhood with mainly expensive houses, and relatively many VVD voters. A neighbourhood where Prime Minister Mark Rutte lives as well. Neighbourhoods like Rutte’s should be refugee-free, according to the VVD.

Sweden: Prime Minister Stefan Löfven on Tuesday condemned a series of suspected arson attacks on asylum accommodation as The Local spoke to officials planning Sweden’s first tent camp for refugees: here.

U.S. is maybe the most active player in Syria’s civil war; has accepted effectively 0% of the conflict’s refugees: here. The same is true for other ‘active players’ like Saudi Arabia.

Texas congressman says we should take in Christian refugees, avoid Muslims: here.

    Vluchtelingen welkom!
    Geen mens is illegaal!
