Portobello Says Scrap Trident
Feb 18, 2013
About the Coalition
Scotland and the UK have had nuclear weapons for 50 years. And now, while spending on health, education, pensions and disability benefits is being slashed, the government is planning to replace Trident at a cost of £100 Billion.
But the people of Scotland are overwhelmingly opposed to nuclear weapons. We want Scotland and the world to be free of these horrendous weapons of mass destruction.
But we must act now to put an end to it. A broad-based coalition of groups have come together to call for scrapping Trident and funding human needs.
Whether you are for independence or not this is the time to demonstrate your opposition to wasteful and immoral nuclear weapons. We will take to the streets of Glasgow and take action at Faslane to demand Trident be scrapped and the resources go to fund healthcare, education, pensions, disability benefits and more.

CND pushes anti-Trident message in the north
Friday 05 April 2013
Veteran peace campaigner Bruce Kent is to speak at three Yorkshire meetings next week about government plans to spend £100 million on new nuclear weapons.
It is part of a nationwide tour by the former CND secretary and chairman calling for Trident to be scrapped and not replaced.
Yorkshire CND say the cash could pay for 150,000 teachers and nurses for 50 years, all student tuition fees for 30 years, or fund all Britain’s A&E units for 40 years.
Mr Kent says he wants to make the connection between the government’s splurge on new nukes and savage cuts that will hit the poorest hardest.
The meetings will take place at:
1.30pm on April 10 at Bradford University
7pm on April 10 at Leeds’s Swarthmore Centre
6pm on April 11 at York’s Friargate Friends Meeting House.
From the CND site:

Thank God our countries have their priorities; else we’d just continue encouraging retirees on the dole. I just finished watching a bunch of our commentators extolling the virtues of Margaret Thatcher and was thinking to myself how lucky you guys were to have her at the same time we had Reagan. We do have an advantage over you though; we had Ayn Rand.
