UK: pro peace people much more popular than warmongers

War critics win poll – warmongers left trailing

11/02/2007

Channel 4‘s ‘most inspiring political figure’ of 2006 is veteran anti-war campaigner Brian Haw.

Haw won an astounding 54% in a recent viewers poll, to take the award ahead of General Sir Richard Dannatt who spoke out against Blair’s war in Iraq, and the Archbishop of York who fasted in protest at Israel’s invasion of Lebanon.

Britain’s Prime warmonger Tony Blair, and his Tory counterpart David Cameron managed a meagre 14% of the vote between them.

The result will give great heart to anti-war activists as they prepare for another massive Stop the War/CND demonstration in London on 24h February.

The demonstration, against the ‘War on Terror’ and plans to spend billions on a new generation of Trident nuclear weapons, will be preceded by a major ‘All London’ rally at the Friends meeting House today 11th February.

Respect members will be joining thousands of activists from many other organisations in building these protests, and we urge you all to attend.
