UN: Libya soon without life-saving drugs
Today, 11:54
In Libya a shortage of life-saving medicines threatens. Therefore a million people will soon need emergency assistance, the United Nations warn.
“Our estimation is that by the end of march, Libya may run out of life saving medications”, a spokesman told Reuters news agency. He predicts particularly problems with drugs against cancer.
The shortages are caused by the chaos in the country. There is no central authority and a large number of militias are fighting each other.
Hospitals
He also worries about the quality of the hospitals in the country. The chaos in Libya means that health care is under heavy pressure.
A few days ago a psychiatric hospital in Benghazi city reported that the resources were finished. “It is really difficult for a hospital to continue like this in a town that is witnessing constant daily fighting in certain parts“, said the spokesman.
