The federal government has begun settlement talks with abuse victims of a billionaire, convicted of soliciting an underage woman for sex. He was not prosecuted on a federal level, and critics say he got a sweetheart deal. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, hosts of The Young Turks, break it down. “Early Monday morning, the federal government will begin settlement talks with several alleged sexual abuse victims of billionaire Jeffrey Epstein. The mediation is a culmination of a civil case, which was filed back in 2008, which centers around how federal prosecutors handled the investigation into Epstein’s alleged victimization of underage girls. The case reveals how the feds came to a ‘sweetheart’ deal with the billionaire reportedly ignoring the rights of the alleged victims in the process. The recent filings in the case also raise legitimate questions about what else prosecutors would have discovered if the federal investigation had not come to an abrupt end with the promise of no prosecution.
First some background. In 2007, the feds entered into a secret non-prosecution agreement with the billionaire which ensured that Epstein and his ‘co-conspirators’ would not be prosecuted federally in exchange for Epstein’s guilty plea to state charges. Epstein served 13 months in a Florida prison and home detention for solicitation and procurement of minors for prostitution — which many believed was a mere slap on the wrist.”

If Bernie doesn’t throw in the towel he is handing the presidency to Trump on a silver platter and will be considered a spoiler the same as Nader was.

Hillary Clinton did not throw in the towel in 2008 when she lost most of the primaries to Obama. Her supporters then used to call themselves PUMA: ‘Party Unity My Ass’.
According to recent public opinion polls it is far from certain that Hillary Clinton would beat Trump; while Sanders would beat Trump massively.
Claiming that Sanders should stop campaigning now would disenfranchise primary voters in the big state California and other states.
It would say to eg, young voters who overwhelmingly support Sanders: Your vote does not matter. Go home; which might indeed hand the election ‘on a silver platter’ to Trump.
Some people consider Nader a spoiler in 2000. However, the real spoiler was Bush’s little brother Jeb with his election fraud in Florida.

Many of the Nader voters would otherwise have stayed home, or voted Republican or for small parties.
Also, after the pro-Bush verdict by the Supreme Court, Gore might have taken the fight to Congress.

Unfortunately Sanders platform is based on ideals that he cannot materialize free education free medical care. A socialist society. His video of 1985 praising dictator Fidel Castro for the changes he brought ti the Iskand of Cuba says it all about his philosophy. We need to be careful what we wish for.

Free education, free medical care are in many countries, many of whom can hardly be called socialist (eg, Canada, Britain). In the 1950s, when Republican Eisenhower was president of the USA, rich people used to pay 92% in taxes. Now, they hardly pay any taxes if at all. So, free education, free medical care are hardly unrealistic pipedreams.

Free education and free medical care were introduced in many countries after World War II, in countries which were poor then because of World War II destruction. And now, supposedly, the richest country in the world, the USA cannot afford them; because the political priorities are making billionaires still richer and spending more and more on endless wars all over the world?

Do you really see it happening here? This is not a socialist country and hopefully never will be. I want to see the rich taxed according to their fair share. Whats happening to our middle class is a disgrace. But back to Sanders, we are a capitalist country. I read nothing but negative even from our own citizens, if it is so bad here, why are our borders beseiged with those wanting in to make a better life for themselves ? Stand up for a America, we need to stop trying to drag her down. We are hurting ourselves.

As I wrote, many of the countries in which free health care and/or free education was legislated were/are not socialist countries.
The mechanics of capitalism, left to themselves, will concentrate more and more wealth away from the middle class and the working class to the 1% richest people.

I disagree. We are not Canada, we are not Europe. Life is not so grand in either of these places, having lived in Germany I am familiar with its system of Hartz IV, Canada also has its class structure but is a beautiful land of wonderful people. I am not a communist, we will not agree and as an American I will not denigrate her but work in what ways I can toward a solution to our problems ( Socialism is not the solution) in whatever way I can. You seem unhappy with the US. Tearing the country down is not the answer unless you intentionally want to denigrate the US in the eyes of the world. We are and will remain the greatest country in the world and will continue to make room for all those flocking to our shores. The End.

I agree with you that the Hartz IV system in Germany is a shame.

The Hartz IV system is the idea of Volkswagen corporation bigwig Peter Hartz, who turned out to be central in a sex and corruption scandal at Volkswagen, and was convicted for that.
The paradox of Hartz IV is that it replaced a previous, more just system for unemployed people. That system dated from after World War II, when Germany was much poorer. Hartz IV replaced it when Germany was much richer. So, no economic necessity. Pure right-wing ideology; of individuals like Peter Hartz who hate poor people. The disastrous result of the ideologies of authors like Ayn Rand and Milton Friedman.

DEMOCRATIC socialist US presidential candidate Bernie Sanders is forecasting that victory in California on June 7 could trigger a rethink by Democratic Party superdelegates.
“What happens if I win a major victory in California? Will people say: ‘Oh, we’re really enthusiastic about Hillary Clinton despite the fact that Bernie Sanders has now won whatever it may be, 25 states, half the states?’” he told news agency AP.
If that happens, superdelegates “may rethink that. That is why you want the process to play out.”
Asked if he thought that the Democratic national convention in Philadelphia could be problematic, he replied: “So what? Democracy is messy. Everyday life is messy.”
The Vermont senator was speaking after the national committee announced a 15-member drafting committee to write the first version of the party platform, which includes allies of both candidates.
He said that the platform process would be an “excellent time to educate the American people,” because it would allow the party to have a vigorous debate over ways to address wealth inequality, the role of Wall Street in the economy, climate change and universal health care.
“A serious debate about serious issues is good for democracy, is good for the Democratic Party. It will increase voter turnout and that always works in our effort to defeat Republicans,” he declared.
His planned rallies across California should allow him to speak directly to 200,000 voters before the primary.

There are few people who have done more to address the obscene proliferation of money in politics than Russ Feingold.
There is also no one the Koch brothers want to keep out of the U.S. Senate more than Russ Feingold.
Russ is running to win a seat in the Senate from Republican Ron Johnson, someone who was called the Koch brothers’ “model legislator.”

Let me tell you a little about what made Russ so effective when he was in the Senate. Russ was the sole vote in the Senate against the USA Patriot Act in 2001. He opposed the war in Iraq, he fought disastrous trade deals and worked to reform our health care system. Russ was also an author of the McCain-Feingold Act to reform our corrupt campaign finance system.
Meanwhile, his Republican opponent credits a Koch brothers organization with inspiring him to run for Senate in the first place. Ron Johnson wants to privatize veterans’ health care and even said he supports Donald Trump as the Republican nominee.
Russ has already faced a huge influx of big money trying to keep him out of the Senate. In fact, the Koch brothers had their ads from a $2 million campaign against Russ taken off the air by TV stations when they were noted to be “false, misleading, and deceptive.”
That won’t be the last time the Koch brothers try to take out Russ. We need to make sure that Russ can fight back and win.
