Murdoch’s Megyn Kelly, from Trump critic to Trump fan

Megyn Kelly and Donald Trump, cartoon

A long time ago … no, it was not so long ago … in August 2015, during the first United States Republican party presidential candidates’ debate, on Rupert Murdoch‘s Fox News TV, there was a quarrel between Donald Trump and Rupert Murdoch employee Megyn Kelly.

Ms Kelly asked Mr Trump about his anti-women sayings. Trump reacted with lots of more misogyny, directed at Megyn Kelly personally.

Some people on the Internet imagined that Ms Kelly had become some sort of feminist heroine. Their imagination should not have been so fast. A real feminist heroine would never have fitted into the misogynist subculture at Fox News. Ms Kelly has a record of being far-right, not that compatible with feminism.

The Murdoch empire chose to take the side of Donald Trump, not the side of its employee Kelly.

Later, Murdoch empire emperor Rupert decided that Donald Trump should become the official Republican party candidate (though other candidates had not given up then yet).

So, yesterday evening Megyn Kelly and Donald Trump had a very amicable hour long conversation on Rupert Murdoch TV. Officially, at Kelly’s request. Unofficially, maybe at Kelly’s bosses’ request. All of Trump’s sexist personal attacks forgiven and forgotten for the ‘greater good’ of the Murdoch empire and the Republican party. Kelly asked the presidential candidate softball questions. “I like our relationship right now,” Trump said in the interview.

This reminds me a bit of Trump‘s relationship with another far-rightist in the USA: arch-Islamophobe Pamela Geller. Back in the summer of 2015, Ms Geller criticized Trump for misogyny. Though misogyny had never bothered Geller in her praise for neo-fascistic anti-Semitic anti-women political parties in Europe, like the French National Front. As long as these parties hated Muslims. Last year, Geller thought Trump was not Islamophobic enough. And he had criticized Geller. So, Geller suddenly discovered Trump’s anti-women views. And she prefered candidate Ted Cruz (even creepier than Trump in some respects).

However, by now Cruz has given up. Trump has meanwhile proposed to ban all Muslims from the USA, and has spouted more Islamophobia. And Pamela Geller has -presto!- flip-flopped from a Trump critic into a Trump fan.

“I have high hopes for him,” Kelly told the crowd. “Despite the tweets and all the rest of it. There’s much to admire about Donald Trump.” Remember, this is the same Trump who once described Kelly as having “blood coming out of her … wherever”: here.

MEGYN KELLY IS HEADING TO NBC The Fox News anchor is headed to NBC News, where she’ll “host a one-hour daytime talk show airing Monday through Friday and a Sunday evening news magazine show, and will contribute on breaking news stories and NBC’s coverage of major political and special events.” And here’s what this means for the future of Fox News. 9. NBC is fast on its way to becoming the next Fox News.

Recently the NBC network brought on two extremist hosts from the right-wing channel. Even worse, NBC announced that–despite clear conflicts of interest–Donald Trump will remain an executive producer for the network’s show, “Celebrity Apprentice,” even after he formally becomes president of the United States.

This is how NBC and the media will normalize not just Donald Trump but his entire sexist, hate-filled agenda–and they stand to make a lot of money from it. Unless we all speak out to stop it, this respected news network will mainstream Trump’s dangerous sexism and racism.

That’s why UltraViolet members are demanding that NBC cut all financial ties to Trump so long as he is president, and commit themselves to reporting the news without bias. Will you join them?

Compromised journalism in favor of protecting Trump and network revenue is the name of the game at NBC. We can’t let the NBC network become a propaganda machine for the Trump administration.

Last week, Megyn Kelly, the former Fox News anchor and conservative golden child, announced that she is moving to NBC.2 People widely praised her for taking on Donald Trump in the 2016 debates, but she then quickly returned to business as usual and supported some of the President-elect’s most bigoted policies and proclamations.3

A few days after Kelly’s announcement, Greta Van Susteren, another former Fox News regular who has promoted Trump for years, announced that she is also making the switch to NBC.4 Van Susteren’s “journalism” includes the production of a special interview titled “Meet The Trumps,” in which she inflates Trump’s leadership and downplays his offensiveness and political incompetence.

NBC’s hiring of these two former Fox employees proves how far-reaching the network’s conflicts of interest are when it comes to Donald Trump. As long as the president-elect remains at the helm of one of the network’s shows, we can expect a whole lot more cozying up to Trump and a whole lot less truth in reporting about the president-elect and his disgusting politics and policies.

Nothing about Donald Trump’s incendiary hatred, toxic sexism, and chest-thumping prejudice is normal.5 We have to stop the media from trying to normalizing those behaviors–while profiting from it, no less. Join us to demand that NBC end all fiduciary relationships they have with President-elect Donald Trump.

Thank you for fighting to keep NBC accountable to the American people, not its profit margins.
