  2. I am happy to bring you some great news about the progress of our political revolution. Last night, taking on almost all of the Democratic political establishment, our friend Ben Jealous won Maryland’s Democratic primary for governor.

Ben’s victory is yet another sign that candidates who run progressive, grassroots campaigns are not only winning the battle of ideas, they are winning elections. In Democratic primary after primary across this country, candidates are running and winning while supporting ideas like Medicare for all, a $15/hour living wage, progressive taxation, free tuition at public colleges and universities, rebuilding our crumbling infrastructure and promoting racial, social and environmental justice.

Starting way down in the polls, Ben pulled off a huge upset last night and is now the Democratic candidate for governor of Maryland. But that’s just the beginning. Ben now has to compete in the general election against an incumbent Republican governor who already has more than $8 million in the bank. I am absolutely confident that Ben can win this election, but he’s going to need our continued help to make it happen.

  3. Last night’s results proved it. Progressive candidates can beat the most powerful political forces in America. Our Revolution-endorsed candidates won by bringing together people who have been left out of the political process and demanding that our communities be heard.

That’s what Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez did in the Bronx and Queens, defeating the fourth-ranking House Democrat with her organizing and her message despite being outspent 10 to 1. She moved people to rallies. Hundreds of volunteers went door-to-door. She told us bold change is possible when we come together, and now we have reason to believe it.

That’s also what Ben Jealous did in Maryland, with 8,000 Our Revolution members across the state who lifted him up and turned out the voters we’ll need in November to win. Our Revolution Maryland also boosted over 100 candidates running for office up and down the ticket. Volunteers called, texted, knocked on doors, and moved people to rallies, protests, and GOTV concerts. That’s why we won.

Organizing with a message is why Liuba Grechen Shirley won in NY-2, Emily Sirota won in Colorado, Dana Balter won in NY-24, Jamie Raskin won in MD-8, and why state legislative candidates won across Maryland and Oklahoma.

  4. Ms Ocasio-Cortez tied her activism, along with her unapologetic demand for ICE abolition, to the interests of the diverse population of her Queens-Bronx district.

“We have families and communities here from Ecuador and Colombia, Bangladesh, Korea, Pakistan and I see them every day.

“Many of them are very scared about what’s going on,” she said.

  8. The Rhode Island Democratic Party endorsed a candidate who appears to have once been a vocal supporter of Donald Trump and alt-right figures, rather than backing the progressive incumbent, Slate reported Monday.

Challenger Michael Earnheart describes himself on his Facebook page as a “moderate” and responded to questions about his political positions with statements of support for the “Second Amendment” and a promise to “defend against legislation that attempts to stop or interfere with lawful gun ownership,” Slate found.

More troublingly, Earnheart wrote on Twitter that undocumented immigrants are “self-entitled lawbreakers and thieves,” in response to a tweet criticizing the Trump administration’s child-separation policy. An archived version of Earnheart’s Twitter page also features retweets of posts by Roseanne Barr, Donald Trump Jr. and conspiracy theorist Mike Cernovich. Earnheart also made Islamophobic comments over a retweet of a post by alt-right figure Gavin McInnes about “Muslim pedophiles.”

Public records show that a Michael Earnheart, of the same age and location, registered as a Republican in 2014 and voted as one in the 2016 election.

Incumbent state Rep. Moira Jayne Walsh, known for her support of raising the minimum wage and marijuana legalization, won a seat in the Rhode Island House in 2016. She received backlash in March after sharing in a radio interview that there was an “insane amount of drinking” among legislators at the statehouse.
