Dutch victim of Brussels attack warns against anti-Muslim sentiment

The Dutch woman Sascha Pinczowski who this Tuesday was killed in the attack at Zaventem Airport in Brussels, warned four months earlier against anti-Islamic sentiments. In a Facebook post she wrote that deliberately demonizing Muslims helps those recruiting new extremists.

Her post was published in November, after the attacks in Paris. “The ignorant spreading of anti-Islamic sentiments and propaganda is only in favour of ISIS,” wrote the 26-year-old Pinczowski.

She was with her brother Alexander on her way to New York, where the two lived. Their father was born and raised in Maastricht. Just before the attack the brother and sister had phoned with home. During that phone call the family heard an explosion and glass shattering.

‘Message of tolerance’

After the attack the mother of the two killed twentysomethings posted the Facebook post by Sascha again. She wrote that she wanted to share “this message of tolerance of our dear daughter Sascha.”
