Demonstration against murdering LGBTQ people in Turkey

Demonstrators against murdering transgender people in Istanbul, Turkey

Translated from Dutch NOS TV today:

In Istanbul on Sunday hundreds of people took to the streets to protest against the death of 22-year-old Hande Kader, a transgender whose severely burned lifeless body was found earlier this month.

The protesters shouted slogans and carried placards. Opposition members participated in the demonstration.

“We will not stop until we find those responsible for Hande Kader’s murder” said Ebru Kiranci, spokeswoman for a Turkish LGBTQ organization to the BBC. Still no one has been arrested for the murder. …

It was the second time in a short time that the LGBTQ community of Istanbul was shocked by a murder. In July, in the city the decapitated and mutilated body of the gay Syrian Muhammad Wasim Sankari was found.

From the Huffington Post today:

J.K. Rowling had to police the internet again.

The “Harry Potter” author called out the United Kingdom-based Christian Voice for a homophobic tweet about British Olympic diver Tom Daley.

The prayer and lobby group posted an anti-gay message after the 22-year-old, who is engaged to screenwriter Dustin Lance Black, failed to qualify for the 10-meter platform final at Rio 2016.
