Soccer player joins racism alert
First black Azzurro from district where Chinese attacked
Rome, October 3 – The first black footballer to play for Italy on Friday joined the growing chorus of voices warning that the country could be facing an epidemic of racism.
”As an Italian I am ashamed,” veteran Palermo midfielder Fabio Liverani told ANSA after the latest in a series of apparently racist attacks the previous day.
Liverani, 32, a half-Somali who made history by turning out for Italy in 2001, noted that he was from the same working-class Rome district, Tor Bella Monaca, where Thursday’s assault on a Chinese man occurred.
The ex-Lazio and Fiorentina player said he had noticed a rise in intolerance.
”It’s like we’ve travelled 60 years back in time. And the level of violence is rising. When I was a boy I suffered some episodes of racism but it was essentially verbal”.
”Just when we thought some progress was being made things are going backwards. I used to hang out in that area. It was a place that had managed to clean itself up, but now this”.
The Chinese immigrant, 36-year-old Tong Hongsheng, was beaten up by a group of teenagers.
An eye witness told police Tong was on his way home when he was surrounded by a group of five or six teenagers who shouted racist slurs before breaking his nose and inflicting other injuries.
One of Tong’s attackers went to Rome city hall with his father Friday to apologise to Mayor Gianni Alemanno for the incident.
Mayor Gianni Alemanno, being a self declared fascist, will not really have minded the racist violence.
Police said the same group attacked two 30-year-old Ivory Coast immigrants last week after shouting racist insults.
Also on Friday, graffiti insulting Anne Frank appeared in another Rome suburb. In another part of Rome someone recently daubed anti-Semitic slogans against Senate Speaker Renato Schifani, who is Jewish.
Insulting graffiti were also found near Milan Friday about a Romanian boy who burned to death in a shanty last week.
Italian human rights groups and the Catholic Church have for months been sounding the alarm over what they say is growing intolerance of immigrants in Italian society.
Earlier this week a case in Parma made headlines when a young student from Ghana was allegedly beaten up by traffic police who reportedly mistook him for a drugs pusher.
Last month an immigrant from Burkina Faso who ran out of a Milan store with a packet of biscuits was killed by the shopkeeper who allegedly beat him to death with an iron bar after hurling racist insults.
The death brought thousands of African immigrants onto the streets of Milan in protest.
Earlier last month the African community in Castel Volturno near Naples rioted after the Camorra mafia mowed down three Ghanaians, two Togo nationals and a Liberian.
A poll of readers of the left-leaning newspaper La Repubblica on Thursday found 86% agreeing with the proposition that Italy has ”a racism emergency”.
This summer the Italian government was widely accused of racism because of a survey of Roma (gypsy) camps which included the fingerprinting of children.
The government insisted the census – which was eventually OK’d by the European Commission – was not aimed against any specific ethnic group or spurred by a wave of crime-linked anti-immigrant feeling.
In the face of protests, Italy agreed with the European Union to make sure the scheme complied with human rights norms.
It also announced it would require all Italian citizens to have their prints put on ID cards starting in 2010.
So, attacking the human rights of Roma as a precedent for attacking human rights in general. Not really an improvement.
But the Council of Europe (CE), Europe’s rights body, claimed that Italian politicians had lacked ”the moral leadership” to face down the kind of anti-gypsy sentiment that led to incidents such as the torching of camps in Naples in June.

RAZZISMO: CORTEO A ROMA “BASTA RAZZISMO”
ROMA – Sfila a Roma il corteo antirazzista, organizzato dopo gli ultimi episodi di violenza ai danni di immigrati in alcune città italiane. “Da oggi nasce una profonda reazione al razzismo, che in questi mesi è stato provocato anche dal Governo e dal suo pacchetto sicurezza”. Lo dice Renato Scarola di Socialismo rivoluzionario, una delle sigle che hanno organizzato il corteo anti-razzista di Roma. “Le decisioni del Governo – prosegue – hanno inasprito la rabbia che cova e lo dimostrano gli episodi di Milano e Roma, anche nelle classi popolari. Oggi dobbiamo renderci conto che il razzismo non può essere sconfitto da questi politici, ma è un sentimento che deve nascere in ogni singolo cittadino: convivenza e accoglienza devono essere i punti di partenza di tutti”.
Gli immigrati che giungono da Castel Volturno sono circa un centinaio: aprono il corteo tenendo in mano le foto dei ragazzi trucidati dal clan dei Casalesi. “Per noi oggi è un evento importante – dice Christopher – Quanto fatto dalla camorra è prima di tutto un massacro a sfondo razzista. Tra noi c’é chi sbaglia, ma in maggioranza siamo persone perbene, che lavorano e che cercano di mandare in Africa un po’ di soldi a chi sta peggio”.
Circa 300 persone appartenenti alla comunità cinese di Roma sta partecipando al corteo contro il razzismo nella capitale. “La nostra presenza qui è motivata non solo da quanto accaduto a Tor Bella Monaca ma perché oggi in Italia è necessario ribadire il no a tutti i tipi di razzismo – afferma Jixin, uno dei portavoce della comunità – Saremmo stati qui lo stesso ma quello che è successo a Tor Bella Monaca deve rappresentare un campanello d’allarme per tutti. I rappresentanti della comunità cinese marciano con uno striscione che recita “contro qualsiasi discriminazione”. “Noi siamo per l’integrazione – conclude Jixin che vive in Italia da circa 9 anni -. Fino ad oggi gli episodi di intolleranza verso di noi sono stati pochi ma ci auguriamo che non stia cambiando il vento”.
AMICO ABBA, CI GIUDICATE SOLO PER IL COLORE – In testa al corteo c’é anche Max, amico di Abba ucciso a Milano. “A voi che pensate di essere migliori di noi, a voi che ci chiamate clandestini – ha detto Max – a voi ignoranti, ci siamo stancati di voi, perché ci giudicate solo per il colore della pelle”. E’ scesa in piazza per dire “basta al razzismo” anche la soubrette tv Sylvie Lubamba: “Mi sento parte in causa perché anche se sono nata in Italia sono di origine africana. Sono con loro, non potevo non essere qui”. Partecipano al corteo, sotto una pioggia battente, non solo immigrati ma anche semplici cittadini. Molti anche i bambini accompagnati dai genitori. Tra di loro una bimba che tra le braccia stringe un bambolotto di colore.

(ANSA) – Rome, October 2 – A Chinese immigrant was beaten up by a group of teenagers in Rome Thursday, the latest in a series of apparently racist attacks.
An eye witness told police the 25-year-old, who does not speak Italian, was on his way home in a working-class Rome suburb when he was surrounded by the group of five or six who allegedly shouted racist slurs before breaking his nose and inflicting other injuries.
Police said the same group attacked two 30-year-old Ivory Coast immigrants last week after shouting racist insults.
”These individuals must be tracked down and punished,” said Rome Mayor Gianni Alemanno.

È TEMPO CHE GLI ITALIANI SI PROCLAMINO FRANCAMENTE RAZZISTI. Tutta l’opera che finora ha fatto il Regime in Italia è in fondo del razzismo. Frequentissimo è stato sempre nei discorsi del Capo il richiamo ai concetti di razza. La questione del razzismo in Italia deve essere trattata da un punto di vista puramente biologico, senza intenzioni filosofiche o religiose. La concezione del razzismo in Italia deve essere essenzialmente italiana e l’indirizzo ariano-nordico. Questo non vuole dire però introdurre in Italia le teorie del razzismo tedesco come sono o affermare che gli Italiani e gli Scandinavi sono la stessa cosa. Ma vuole soltanto additare agli Italiani un modello fisico e soprattutto psicologico di razza umana che per i suoi caratteri puramente europei si stacca completamente da tutte le razze extra-europee, questo vuol dire elevare l’italiano ad un ideale di superiore coscienza di se stesso e di maggiore responsabilità. Sembra scritto oggi e invece è roba del 1938, sembra che si parli del regime berlusconiano e invece al governo c’era mussolini, sembra che si tratti di bambini africani e, invece, si parlava soprattutto di bambini ebrei (ma anche di africani, naturalmente).
Però le differenze finiscono qui perché, per il resto, l’Italia non è cambiata. Al posto dei razzisti fascisti abbiamo i razzisti leghisti, al posto dei bambini ebrei si vogliono privare dei diritti i bambini africani, chiamandoli con la disgustosa parola “clandestino”. Ma il sentimento e lo stomaco di una gran parte degli italiani è rimasto ferocemente razzista: feroci come solo gli straccioni arricchiti sanno essere
Chissà se in questo paese, pieno di vergognosi razzisti piazzati al governo, c’è ancora un po’ di gente capace di dire in faccia a questi cialtroni che nessun uomo è clandestino, che nessun bambino può essere reso invisibile, che un immigrato del Sudan o del Maghreb ha gli stessi diritti, gli stessi sogni, le stesse speranze e la stessa dignità di un industrialotto della Brianza o di di un tabaccaio della Val Brembana.
Qualcuno che spieghi a questi immondi razzisti che il mondo non ha etichette, la terra non ci appartiene per diritto di nascita, il sangue di tutti è rosso….
