More Sanctions on Venezuela: Operation Florida 2020 (Pt 1/2)

Senators [Robert] Menendez [a warmongering Wall Street Democrat, accused of corruption] and [Republican Marco] Rubio introduced a bipartisan bill to the Senate to intensify US and international pressure on the government of Venezuela. Mark Weisbrot says this is largely possible because members of Congress are unaware of the suffering the sanctions are causing in Venezuela.

Pompeo: Sanctions Increase “Pain and Suffering” in Venezuela (Pt 2/2)

[Donald Trump‘s] Secretary of State Mike Pompeo recently openly admitted that the sanctions are causing pain and suffering and that this would accelerate the process of toppling the Maduro government. Mark Weisbrot discusses the approach and what Democrats and progressives could do to stop this.

    • Maduro was elected democratically. While Donald Trump’s puppet Guaido appointed himself as ‘president’. Imagine in the Netherlands Marianne Thieme of the Party of the Animals proclaiming herself to be the ‘real’ prime minister; and calling on a Russian and/or Chinese military invasion to enforce that. Then, corporate media all over the world would howl of indignation 24 hours a day.

If the Trump war on Venezuela would succeed, then Venezuela would become a bloody far-right dictatorship like in Chile under Pinochet, or in Brazil during the 1960s-70s military dictatorship; or like Bolsonaro is making in Brazil right now.
