‘No Trump war for Venezuelan oil’, demonstration

This 17 March 2019 video from the USA says about itself:

“No War for Oil” as Thousands March Against US Intervention in Venezuela

As part of an international day against US intervention in Venezuela, a mobilization in Washington, DC with speakers Daniel Ellsberg and Jill Stein emphasized that Trump is only interested in Venezuela’s resources, not in its human rights.

OIL EXECS CHORTLE OVER ‘UNPRECEDENTED’ ACCESS TO TRUMP Participants at a meeting of oil industry executives and lobbyists can be heard laughing uproariously at boasts related to “unprecedented access” to key Trump administration officials in a secretly recorded tape. The recording was made as some 100 executives of the Independent Petroleum Association of America gathered at a hotel in Southern California in the summer of 2017, and has been obtained by Reveal from the Center for Investigative Reporting. 1. For a number of years and under presidents of both parties, VoteVets has fought to stop our country’s involvement in endless wars.

Because the truth is, we have troops in Afghanistan, Iraq, and Syria who were in diapers when the original Authorization to Use Military Force was passed in 2001.

Since then, it has been used to allow our military’s involvement in not just Afghanistan and Iraq, but countries like Yemen, Kenya, Ethiopia, Eritrea and more.

Frankly, this is the kind of debate that the founders intended – because war powers are to rest with the Congress, not the President, and not the Department of Defense.

This issue of endless war is getting a lot of attention lately. Just yesterday the New York Times profiled our work with a conservative veterans group on it as well.

But today, we want to ask you to take action – action that we will make sure your representatives in Congress hear about:

Sign VoteVets’ petition calling on Congress to debate and vote on Congresswoman Barbara Lee’s bipartisan bill to repeal the 2001 Authorization for the Use of Military Force.

Paul Ryan tried to block this bill, but now we have a new Congress. And the Senate just voted to end our involvement in another war that was never voted on by Congress.

There’s momentum here. Help is built by adding your name.

    All my best,

    Kate Hoit
    Iraq War Veteran, U.S. Army

  3. Yesterday three Venezuelan diplomatic sites – one in New York and two in Washington, D.C. – were seized by the reactionary forces of Juan Guaidó. Many of us also heard about the incredible fightback unleashed by activists in response to these illegal seizures. Dozens of people mobilized with just an hour’s notice to confront these imposters. Not everyone can mobilize at a moment’s notice, however, and some might feel concerned seeing staged PR images printed in U.S. government publications like VOA.

We are writing to assure you that momentum is in our favor.

In New York, dozens of network activists stood in the cold until 10pm, chanting past the NYPD that theirs was an illegal seizure in service to imperialism and white supremacy. In Washington D.C., dozens more assembled to call out these trespassers protected by the U.S. war machine in broad daylight. This show of popular support for Venezuela’s sovereignty has not gone unnoticed.

Today, in response to our fightback and international outrage, coup supporters stood outside the consulate in New York and posed with Venezuelan flags. They led media on a tour of their destruction, having taken down photos of Nicolás Maduro and Hugo Chávez and replaced them with the spirits of Donald Trump and John Bolton.

This is a pathetic attempt at a PR war that they can’t win. Venezuelan people, people of Latin America, of the United States, of the Western Hemisphere; we are all rallying in support of Venezuela. From the impressive day of global action on February 23rd to the mobilization in Washington D.C. this past weekend, resistance to this imperialist onslaught is building.

This Thursday at 7pm eastern, the No War on Venezuela network and the International Action Center are welcoming back network activists from a delegation from Venezuela. We will also take this opportunity to propose next steps around these recent developments.

  5. On March 30, Confront the NATO War Machine & Defend Venezuela!

People are coming to Washington, DC on Sat. March 30 from around the world and across the U.S. to confront NATO and Defend Venezuela

Many different forces are mobilizing – Become an Organizing Center or find one near you (current list below)

This week, the right-wing, racist President of Brazil, Jair Bolsonaro, visited the White House in Washington, D.C. Donald Trump stood next to him at a podium and said that he’d like to see Brazil as a closer “military partner” – possibly even a NATO ally.

With Colombia now an official actor in NATO, this turns both Brazil and Colombia into aircraft bases for the U.S. war machine.

Make no mistake — this expansion of the US commanded war machine into Latin America is a dagger aimed directly at both Venezuela and Cuba and all the gains of the past decades.

The ominous threat is very clear: the US is expanding NATO into Latin America in order to attack Venezuela. There is an immediate threat of military dictatorships again dominating the people of Latin America.

Once the United States has its hands on Venezuela and it’s expansive oil wealth, gold, and 32 million people, this will signal U.S. hegemony and imperialism in a way it’s never been able to do before. The United States will assume functional control over the vast majority of the world’s oil. With its own ability to frack and poison inside the US, the price of oil – and the global economy – will become more volatile than ever before.

NATO has a huge role to play in this coming disaster. No matter its strength, Donald Trump will be at the wheel. Wall Street and the Pentagon are out of fresh ideas for profit. We need to be in the streets. NATO was created to stamp out economic and social justice. Destroying countries like Venezuela is just another day at the office for these warmongers.

But with all our strength, we are fighting back! From solidarity delegations to flash pickets and mass mobilizations, we are gaining momentum in our battle against war and racism!

Activists and peace-loving people from across the world are converging on Washington, D.C. this March 30th. We will meet in front of the White House that Saturday at 1pm to tell Donald Trump, his generals, and his financial crooks that the people of the world are sick of racist and imperialist institutions like NATO.
