Trump’s warmongering first, sailors’ lives poor second

This 28 April 2020 video from the USA says about itself:

[Republican] Congressman Wittman on protecting sailors from COVID-19

COVID-19 has struck again when it comes to the U.S. Navy. A second warship, the USS Kidd, has been hit by the virus while at sea.

Translated from Dutch NOS radio today:

Second US naval warship shut down due to outbreak on board

The US navy ship USS Kidd has been temporarily taken off the sea because 64 of the more than 300 persons on board have tested positive for the coronavirus. The ship is moored in the port of San Diego. All persons on board have to disembark and the entire ship is being disinfected. The first infections were discovered last week when the Kidd took part in a drug trafficking mission off the coast of Central America.

Officially, the mission of the USS Kidd off Central America was ‘against drugs‘. However, one may suspect it was (also) part of President Trump’s warmongering against countries which he hates like Nicaragua and Venezuela; and propping up pro-Trump regimes like in Ecuador.

Two Covid-19 patients were then brought ashore to be treated.

Earlier, the aircraft carrier USS Theodore Roosevelt, on which nearly 5000 men reside, was evacuated because of the coronavirus. An infection has been confirmed in more than 900 crew members, the entire crew is being tested. The aircraft carrier was quarantined for one month at a US American base on the island of Guam. The captain has been fired for reporting the infestations, but the minister who dismissed him resigned a few days later and the Navy wants the captain to return. Whether that will happen is not yet clear.
