English anti-CETA solidarity with Wallonia

This video is about a big demonstration against the TTIP and CETA trade deals in Amsterdam, the Netherlands, on 22 October 2016.

From daily The Morning Star in Britain:

Activists mourn death of democracy if Ceta passes

Thursday 27th October 2016

CAMPAIGNERS in Manchester are staging a “funeral for democracy” today as the European Union continues its bid to sell out popular sovereignty to transnational corporations.

Stop TTIP Manchester is holding its protest in solidarity with Wallonia, Belgium, which is standing up to the combined might of Canada and the EU to derail free trade deal Ceta.

Both US-EU pact TTIP and EU-Canada treaty Ceta would give companies the right to sue governments for theoretical loss of profits if they take action to defend their economies.

Stop TTIP Manchester’s Rowan Mataram said: “In Manchester we love trade. We live in a city founded upon trade.

“Why any government would want to sign up to an agreement that allows businesses to sue governments is beyond me.”

He said campaigners will be “mourning the death of democracy” if the EU pushes through Ceta from 8am in a procession from Piccadilly Gardens to St Anne’s Square.

EU PRESIDENT Donald Tusk claimed yesterday an anti-democratic trade deal with Canada could still be signed today while last-minute talks were held with Belgium’s Wallonia region: here. However, it will not be signed today.

The Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) between the European Union (EU) and Canada, which was to have been signed today in Brussels, is in limbo and could soon fall apart after two of Belgium’s four regional administrations demanded changes: here.
