  1. Star’s presidential bid in question

Haiti: Super-rich hip-hop star Wyclef Jean’s presidential bid is in doubt after the electoral commission postponed indefinitely plans to draw up a shortlist of legal candidates.

The former Fugees star, who was said to be in hiding after receiving telephone threats, is one of 30 hopefuls for the November contest.

Left-leaning Hollwyood actor Sean Penn, who runs an aid mission in Haiti, has criticised fellow star Mr Jean’s bid as “obscene” and suggested that he may merely be a front for US corporate interests.
