Homophobia in Trump’s USA

This 28 October 2016 video from the USA says about itself:

Here’s Exactly Why A Vote For Trump Is A Vote Against LGBTQ Rights

There’s a lot of confusion over Trump’s views on LGBTQ rights, but make no mistake: he’s against same-sex marriage and transgender protections.

TRUMP BANS VISAS FOR PARTNERS OF GAY DIPLOMATS The State Department this week stopped giving visas to the same-sex partners of diplomats working at the United Nations. The White House argument is that same-sex couples must marry to remain in the country together. Only fair, right? No. As the administration knows, gay marriage is not an option in most countries. So chalk this up as another

WHITE NATIONALIST ALSO A HOMOPHOBE Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) criticized the National Republican Congressional Committee on Monday for supporting a candidate for Congress who is gay. [HuffPost]

EVANGELICAL UNIVERSITY REINSTATES QUEER BAN The board of trustees at Azusa Pacific University, a prominent evangelical school in California, reinstated an outright ban on queer relationships after an administrative decision last month to lift a ban on romantic same-sex relationships. The board sent out a statement that reaffirmed its “biblical and orthodox” view of marriage — seemingly preparing students for adulthood by pushing an unlettered worldview. [HuffPost]

TRUMP GREEN-LIGHTS FOSTER CARE DISCRIMINATION The Trump administration has granted a federally funded foster care agency in South Carolina the right to freely discriminate against potential foster parents who are LGBTQ or who are Jewish, Muslim, Hindu, Catholic or other non-Protestant faiths. Actress Ellen Page called out Trump and Vice President Mike Pence for promoting hate against LGBTQ people in an impassioned plea on “The Late Show” Thursday night.

SCHOOL ‘RUN AS A CULT’ FACES NEW SCRUTINY Atlah World Missionary Church in New York City ― designated a hate group by the Southern Poverty Law Center ― faces new scrutiny by city officials as former students tell HuffPost of a K-12 private school where kids have been psychologically abused and systematically taught to fear LGBTQ people. 12. The Trump administration just announced a new policy that would allow adoption and foster care agencies, hospitals, domestic violence shelters, and other social services to openly discriminate against LGBTQ people and anyone else they might disagree with on “religious” grounds.1

The proposed rule, issued by the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS), allows agencies and programs that receive federal funding to deny services to LGBTQ people under the guise of protecting “religious freedom.” And the consequences will be devastating: Foster care and adoption agencies can refuse to place children with LGBTQ families. Hospital employees can refuse to treat LGBTQ patients.2 And domestic violence shelters can turn down survivors trying to escape an abusive relationship because they are LGBTQ.3

It’s a horrifyingly cruel move by Donald Trump and his administration. But Congress has the power to fix it by passing the Equality Act, which would ban discrimination against LGBTQ people in employment, education, housing, and other services once and for all. The bill has passed the House last spring, and has broad support in the Senate from both Republicans and Democrats. The public is behind it, too–a poll showed 70% of Americans support it, including a majority of Republicans.4 The next step is for the Senate to vote for it. Will you sign the petition asking your senators, Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, to take action right away?

Tell Sens. John Cornyn and Ted Cruz: It’s up to you to stop the Trump administration’s blatant, hateful discrimination against LGBTQ people. Pass the Equality Act NOW.
    Sign the petition

The new HHS rule allowing discrimination is unbelievably hateful. And while it targets LGBTQ people, it could impact literally anyone. It allows any agency employee to discriminate simply by claiming that providing the services would violate their religion. That means that Meals on Wheels could refuse to serve seniors who are LGBTQ. Head Start and child care programs could turn away young children because their parents are LGBTQ.5 It’s horrifying to think about the impact this rule would have on the most marginalized communities.

But the Equality Act is a strong solution that would finally outlaw discrimination against LGBTQ people–not just in federally funded programs, but also in employment, housing, education, and more. Passing this important bill would make it illegal to fire someone for being gay, to refuse to rent to a same-sex couple, or to turn away a customer because they are trans.6 It’s critically important for millions of LGBTQ people–and it’s the best way to stop the Trump administration’s horrible attack in its tracks.

If we all speak out now, while the outrage over the Trump administration’s new anti-LGBTQ rule is high, we can push the Senate to take action. Will you sign the petition?

    Thanks for speaking out!
