Hummingbirds, woodpeckers and thrushes in Costa Rica

Volcano hummingbird female on branch, 27 March 2014

As promised, after the morning of 27 March 2014 near San Gerardo de Dota in Costa Rica, now the afternoon. Including this female volcano hummingbird.

Sometimes, a rufous-collared sparrow on its own.

Sooty thrush male, 27 March 2014

Sooty thrushes. A bird species of the highlands of Costa Rica and Panama, not anywhere else. This photo shows a male.

A Wilson’s warbler.

Yellow-thighed finches and berries, 27 March 2014

Yellow-thighed finches, feeding on berries. Juveniles don’t have yellow thighs yet. Yet another “Costa Rica and Panama only” species.

16:45: we go back, passing the “mossy tree resplendent quetzal nest” which this blog mentioned earlier.
