As promised, after the morning of 27 March 2014 near San Gerardo de Dota in Costa Rica, now the afternoon. Including this female volcano hummingbird.
15:35: along the road, in a tree, a black guan.
Ten minutes later: a bird table, with acorn woodpeckers.
A female magnificent hummingbird.
Flame-coloured tanagers. Like this male.
And this female.
Sometimes, a male flame-coloured tanager on the table together with a rufous-collared sparrow.
Sometimes, a rufous-collared sparrow on its own.
Sooty thrushes. A bird species of the highlands of Costa Rica and Panama, not anywhere else. This photo shows a male.
And this one shows a female.
16:05: a red-tailed squirrel at the bird table.
Yellow-thighed finches, feeding on berries. Juveniles don’t have yellow thighs yet. Yet another “Costa Rica and Panama only” species.
16:45: we go back, passing the “mossy tree resplendent quetzal nest” which this blog mentioned earlier.
Love this little guy! Blessings, Natalie 🙂

Yes, volcano hummingbirds are among the smallest birds in the world.

Gorgeous! The sooty thrush reminds me of the two thrushes we have in Jamaica – one with yellow legs, too. Lovely birds!

Thanks for your kind comment! Belize has beautiful wildlife (a bit more lowland rainforest, a bit less highland than Costa Rica). See on Belize
