Yemeni Nobel Prize winner against ‘war on terror’

This video from the USA is called Nobel Peace Winner Tawakkul Karman on Yemen and the U.S. War on Terror.

From Truthout in the USA:

Yemeni Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Tawakkul Karman on Human Rights Abuses Enabled by ‘War on Terror’

Saturday 8 October 2011

Yemeni Nobel Peace Prize Laureate Tawakkul Karman, one of three recipients who split the award this year, spoke in New York City at the Brecht Forum in September 2010 about state violence, targeted killings, and human rights abuses enabled by the so-called “War on Terror.”

Democracy Now! was there and we bring you her address. Karman notes that by cooperating with the Yemeni government’s repression of its opponents, the United States “has transitioned from being the leader of the free world to a watch dog for tyrant regimes.”

The Yemeni opposition movement is rightly suspicious of claims made by president Ali Abdullah Saleh on state television last Saturday: here.

The recognition of three women in the Nobel Peace Prizes announced earlier this month came as a welcome variation to the long list of male names, but it also begged the question why women so rarely get the prize, and why when they do, they have to share it: here.

  1. Vietnam general: Heed US history

UNITED STATES: Vietnamese General Vo Tien Trung warned US army officers to “heed history’s lessons on the folly of military intervention” during a speech at the US National Defence University on Thursday.

Mr Vo, who won his first Liberation Feat of Arms medal from the Vietnamese military at the age of 12 in 1967 during the US invasion, said his country would always be a force for peace and “would not join any military alliances or permit any foreign forces to establish bases in Vietnam.”
