United States militarist media egg on militarist Trump

This video from the USA says about itself:

Donald Trump cultivated legitimacy among the press when he recently decided to become exponentially more belligerent with respect to his foreign policy. In this segment we discuss how the media has been fawning over his newfangled militaristic behavior, and how it’s dangerously emboldening him to be even more aggressive internationally.

The repeated statements by US Vice President Mike Pence and other Trump administration officials Monday that the “era of strategic patience” with North Korea is over and “all options are on the table” have laid bare the mounting threat that Washington will provoke a war on the Korean peninsula involving the use of nuclear weapons and the deaths of millions: here.

So listen well, manager, or supervisor of what you yourself call the “free world”. Or how should I call you, President? Ok, fine, President [Trump]… If you shoot your Tomahawk missiles at them, at DPRK [North Korea], (as you recently did at Syria), or if you drop your bloody “Mother of All Bombs” on them (as you just did on some god-forsaken hamlet in Afghanistan, just in order to demonstrate your spite and destructive force), their bodies will be torn to pieces, people will die in tremendous agony; wives will be howling in despair burying their husbands, grandparents will be forced to cover the dead bodies of their tiny grandchildren with white sheets, entire neighborhoods and villages will cease to exist: here.

HUNDREDS were expected to protest at the US embassy yesterday evening as organisers warned of a “very dangerous global situation” developing as Donald Trump’s row with North Korea escalates.

The demonstration, organised by Stop the War and the Campaign for Nuclear Disarmament, has been called to stop Mr Trump’s “nuclear war drive.”

And they demanded that the British government distances itself from the US president’s “nuclear ambitions.”

CND general secretary Kate Hudson warned “it hasn’t quite sunk in … just how close to nuclear war we might be” as Mr Trump continues to threaten North Korea.

A Stop the War spokesperson said: “Donald Trump’s belligerent statements and provocative actions have created a frightening stand-off with nuclear-armed North Korea.

“This, combined with missile attacks on Syria and the use of a weapon of mass destruction (the mega-bomb) in Afghanistan, signals a sharp turn to intervention which is ratcheting up tension around the world.”

And Ms Hudson warned: “Donald Trump said the North Korea issue ‘will be taken care of’ and has sent an aircraft carrier-led strike group to the Korean peninsula as an indication of his intentions.

She accused Mr Trump of violating international law, adding: “Civil society is mobilising to demand a de-escalation of this crisis because the consequences of a war don’t bear thinking about.

“It’s absolutely critical that the British government distances itself from Donald Trump’s nuclear ambitions.”

‘Peace-loving’ Pence ramps up rhetoric with Pacific troops

US VICE-PRESIDENT Mike Pence warned “the sword stands ready” to fall on North Korea yesterday.

Speaking from the deck of the aircraft carrier USS Ronald Reagan, moored in Tokyo Bay, Mr Pence threatened to unleash “overwhelming” military force against Pyongyang.

“The United States of America will always seek peace but under President Trump, the shield stands guard and the sword stands ready,” he told some 2,500 sailors gathered on the flight deck.

“Those who would challenge our resolve or readiness should know, we will defeat any attack and meet any use of conventional or nuclear weapons with an overwhelming and effective American response.”

But his warning rang hollow as the US Pacific Command revealed the “armada” US President Donald Trump said he had dispatched to North Korea’s coast last week had in fact sailed to Australia for a training drill over the weekend.

It said the battle group led by the carrier USS Carl Vinson was now heading to the western Pacific “as a prudent measure” but would not arrive for another week.

China’s English-language Global Times — considered the voice of the ruling Communist Party — speculated Mr Trump may have been bluffing in his brinkmanship with Pyongyang.

Yesterday China expressed “serious concern” at North Korea’s nuclear development. The comments were made in response to a BBC interview with North Korea’s vice-foreign minister who said that Pyongyang would launch a pre-emptive strike if it believed that the US was planning an attack.

Meanwhile US Defence Secretary James Mattis, in Saudi Arabia to discuss the invasion of Yemen, denounced North Korea’s latest missile test. “The leader of North Korea again recklessly tried to provoke something by launching a missile,” he said.

Pyongyang has offered to halt its nuclear and missile programme if the US ends its “reckless” military exercise drills with South Korea.

In Moscow, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov told reporters he hoped “there will be no unilateral actions like those we saw recently in Syria and that the US will follow the line that President Trump repeatedly voiced during the election campaign” — referring to the president’s promise to keep the US out of foreign conflicts.
