      • Thank you. An interesting side note. Some archaeologists found Roman artifacts at the southern end of New York City. After much excitement and research they discovered that some half empty boats from England had loaded their hulls with earth ballast for stability. Then, when they needed the space for cargo, they dumped the ballast in NYC battery. Of course the real and original provenance of the Roman artifacts was England.

        • Yes, events like that make it more difficult to find out about objects’ histories. Eg, on the beach of Texel island in the Netherlands, sometimes fossil bones from the Ice Age are found; which are originally from somewhere on the North Sea floor; transported to Texel with sand used to strengthen the dunes.
