Somalia: Government Soldiers Kill Civilians

Mogadishu — Somali government soldiers killed a taxi driver and injured two children in Hamar Jajab district in Mogadishu, witnesses said on Saturday.

Residents say the brutal action of killing has affected the locals of Hamar Jajab district after the government soldiers have shot and killed a taxi driver who was very familiar in that district and wounded two other children. It is not known the reason of the killing.

“Now the situation is calm but we don’t know the reason why the government soldiers killed the man and wounded the children,” one resident told Shabelle Media Network.

On the other hand unidentified gunmen armed with pistols have shot dead a woman in Dharkenley district in Mogadishu late on Friday.

The killing of civilians is not new to the people of Mogadishu.

Somalia: Death Toll Rises After Ethiopian Troops Kill 12 Civilians

Somalia — Ethiopian troops killed 12 Somali nomads after being attacked by insurgents in Kaba Hirig about 80 kilometres west of Mogadishu, but now the number has risen to 23, eyewitnesses said on Sunday.

“We found six bodies in the bush near water well and we buried this morning,” one resident told Radio Shabelle by phone.

Another resident told Shabelle that they had found 5 bodies including a young baby and his mother who the Ethiopian soldiers killed them.

The Ethiopian troops have reportedly killed those people when they were ambushed by insurgents in the area on Friday.

Locals say the Ethiopian soldiers have indiscriminately opened gun fire to the deceased civilians and their animals.

Hawiye traditional elders condemned the killing which they called a massacre committed by the Ethiopian soldiers.
