Since the release of heavily edited videos in July, six states have moved to defund Planned Parenthood.2 Ohio is pushing to become the seventh.3
And while President Obama has pledged to veto the Senate-passed bill, anti-choice Republicans are once again using fear of a government shutdown to push to defund Planned Parenthood nationally.4
To stop the war on Planned Parenthood, we need to make Republicans pay a political price for these attacks. If we don’t, the attacks will never stop. And if a bill like this hits the desk of a Republican president, it will become law.
Our secret weapon in the fight to save Planned Parenthood is that millions of women—1 in 5 across America—have visited a Planned Parenthood.5 That’s why, despite months of smears and discredited accusations, 6 in 10 Americans STILL oppose defunding Planned Parenthood.6

Once again, a gunman has killed people for political reasons. Once again, he is described in the mainstream media using words and phrases such as: deranged, mentally disturbed, homicidal, gunman, shooter, criminal, murderer, and lone wolf. He may have been all of that, but one key descriptive word is conspicuously missing from most of the commentary: terrorist. Killing people who don’t believe what you believe in order to further your political aims is, indeed, one of the definitions of terrorism. If the suspect involved had recently arrived here from Syria (or anywhere else in the Middle East, really), would the news networks be so cautious about calling him a “terrorist”? I seriously doubt it. In fact, if that were the case, he’d likely be quickly labelled an “Islamic terrorist”: here.

A Texas grand jury investigating alleged misconduct by Planned Parenthood instead indicted two operatives of an anti-abortion group that created doctored videos of the organization last year, which they claimed showed representatives of the health provider selling aborted fetal tissue for profit. Anti-abortion radicals in the Missouri state senate have just issued a subpoena demanding the name and personal medical information for every woman who’s had an abortion at the last remaining abortion clinic in Missouri.1
And now they’re threatening to throw the CEO of Planned Parenthood in St. Louis in jail if she doesn’t comply.2
This is an outrageous violation of medial privacy, not to mention federal law–and we won’t stand for it. We’re mobilizing a nationwide backlash to demand and end to the bullying and threats from anti-abortion Republicans.

The subpoena demands copies of signed consent forms for every woman who’s had an abortion over a six year time period.
And since this is the last abortion clinic in the state, they’re basically demanding a complete list of every woman who’s had an abortion in the state of Missouri.
And once they get their hands on those names, they won’t even promise not to release them to the public, risking not only public embarrassment but harassment by anti-abortion extremists or worse.
These are issues that should be decided by a woman and her doctor–no one else. These Republicans want to make every one of these women’s private health decisions a matter of public record.
Nothing shows more clearly the total lack of respect for women than this blatant violation of medical privacy. To hold them accountable, our strategy is to make this a national controversy and force anti-choice Republicans around the country to answer questions and take a position.

Donald Trump thought he could get away with his backdoor defunding of Planned Parenthood when he announced his new “gag rule” against family planning providers.1
He thought wrong.
We are fighting back! Tonight, UltraViolet Education Fund is joining Planned Parenthood and other allies to organize a major protest in front of the U.S. Capitol to stop Trump’s family planning gag rule—but last-minute expenses are starting to pile up for things like rally recruitment and signs. We’re counting on your help to make it a success.
Will you chip in $5 to UltraViolet Action and help stop Trump’s family planning gag rule?
This gag rule will imperil health care access for more than 4 million people in the United States—including access to family planning, cancer screenings, STI tests, and more. Low-income women, many of whom are young, Black, and Latinx, will be especially harmed.2
Taxpayer money already can’t be used to fund abortion care, but Trump’s family planning gag rule says that health care providers that receive federal Title X funding must use “physically separate” facilities to provide abortion care.3 They are also banned from discussing or referring patients for abortion under any circumstances.4
Under the gag rule, Planned Parenthood will be forced to give up its Title X funding for two reasons. First, refusing to provide patients with complete and accurate medical information is a violation of the medical ethics that Planned Parenthood is sworn to uphold. Second, because Planned Parenthood clinics provide abortion care, they would be forced to to have two separate clinics in every community where they provide care–a massive, impossible task.5
Make no mistake: the gag rule is a backdoor attempt to defund of Planned Parenthood, the organization that serves 41% of the 4 million low-income people who receive care through Title X.
Family planning providers have sued the Trump administration, but after two years of Trump and Mitch McConnell ramming through far right-wing judges, we can’t count on the courts to do the right thing.
That’s why UltraViolet Education Fund is working with Planned Parenthood to bring the pressure needed to stop this rule with tonight’s rally. We’re counting on members like you to help make the “Rally for our Health and Rights” a success.
