  1. US base talks break down

Japan: Talks on the relocation of a major US military base were suspended on Tuesday, deepening a deadlock between the United States and Japan.

Foreign Minister Katsuya Okada said that a high-level working group convened to discuss the move had been broken up and no date for a restart had been set.

Mr Okada said: “We are now waiting to see whether we should hold the discussions again.”
