British government’s Facebook spying

This video from Britain says about itself:

TAKING LIBERTIES is a shocking but hilarious polemic documentary that charts the destruction of all your Basic Liberties under 10 Years of New Labour. Released to coincide with Tony Blair’s departure, the film and the book follow the stories of normal people whose lives have been turned upside down by injustice – from being arrested for holding a placard outside parliament to being tortured in Guantanamo Bay.

From British daily The Morning Star:

Facebook spying plans ‘unworkable’

Wednesday 25 March 2009

by Louise Nousratpour

PRIVACY campaigners attacked government proposals to spy on users of social networking websites as unworkable and “unspeakably offensive” on Wednesday.

Home Office Minister Vernon Coaker has revealed that government monitoring of internet communications may be extended to include “Facebook, Bebo, MySpace and all other similar sites.”

  1. Senators probe prying employers

UNITED STATES: Two senators announced on Sunday that they are asking Attorney-General Eric Holder to investigate whether employers asking job applicants for their Facebook passwords breaks federal law.

Democratic Senators Chuck Schumer of New York and Richard Blumenthal of Connecticut believe the practice, which is growing in the US, could violate the Stored Communications Act and the Computer Fraud and Abuse Act.

β€œIn an age where more and more personal information is online it is vital that individuals be allowed to protect personal information from would-be employers,” Mr Schumer said.

  16. Reblogged this on Ace News Services and commented:
#AceSecurityNews says the fact Facebook did a deal sometime ago, underlies the use of “Social Media’s Data” as a tool to control peoples views! To often they have been sadly lacking in their privacy and to that end, have allowed themselves to be bought on the back of trading their wares! Check out using certain apps who is monitoring your Facebook page? #privacy what #privacy
