Stresemann’s Bristlefront – Entufado-baiano – Merulaxis stresemanni
One of the rarest birds of the WORLD. Population estimated in less than ten individuals. The good news is that the male in the video, that was single until the beginning of last month (Jan 2016) is now accompanied by a female. More hope for the future of this seriously threatened species that is only found at Reserva Mata do Passarinho, in the border of the states of Bahia and Minas Gerais, managed by the Brazilian NGO: Fundação Biodiversitas.

It is amazing how much the Stresemann’s Bristlefront of Brazil sounds like the Piliated Woodpecker of North America. They don’t look or act much alike.

Thanks for the video!
The Stresemann’s Bristlefront belongs to the songbirds, like over half of all bird species; woodpeckers don’t.
