UPDATED: The first batch of Sweden’s new currency has gone into circulation as part of a huge project designed to replace over 300 million bank notes across the country.

The Nordic nation has introduced 200-kronor notes and launched updated versions of 20, 50 and 1,000 kronor cash as part of its biggest currency changeover in decades.

The new money features Swedish legends including director Ingmar Bergman, actress Greta Garbo, and children’s author Astrid Lindgren.

Ms Lindgren is pictured together with her book character Pippi Longstocking.

Dutch NOS TV reports that on 30 June 2016 old Swedish notes will lose their value. Among the pictures on these are naturalist Carl Linnaeus, and author Selma Lagerlöf with her character Nils Holgersson.
