Translated from the Dutch Vlinderstichting entomologists:
Monday, September 28th, 2015
The experts already expected it, and on Sunday, September 27th, 2015 was the day: the first southern small white butterfly was observed at the Fort Sint Pieter in Maastricht by Pieter Vantieghem. A new butterfly species for the Netherlands.
Update: here.
Wow, we have bunches of those!!! Didn’t know that they didn’t live in the Netherlands as well. That was interesting!

Hi, the source says this species used to live only high up rocky mountains, in, eg, Switzerland, Morocco.
Recently, to their surprise, biologists found it had extended its biotope to rock gardens around Zürich, and was common there. There are many rock gardens in many countries, making it possible for the species to spread further.

I live only about 1 hour away from Zürich. So that might be pretty true. We really have bunches of those white ones. They are the most common butterflies over here.

Hi Erika, are you sure whether the ones which you see are common small white
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pieris_rapae
which also lives in Switzerland and neighbouring countries; or this southern small white?
You can tell the difference from their black spots. See the pictures about the differences, in German, at

There are both actually! The ones with and without black spots! But thanks I did not differ before!

What a gorgeous colour that butterfly is

Yes, true. The white colour makes it difficult to distinguish from similar species like the (common) small white. However, the black spots on its wings have different shapes.

I’ve never seen one quite that colour before
