Dutch vermilion beetle discovery

Vermilion beetle

Cucujus cinnaberinus is a beetle species, rare throughout Europe. It lives mainly in southern Europe, and had never been recorded in Belgium or the Netherlands.

However, in January this year, Dutch entomologists discovered it in a nature reserve near Eindhoven city.

The beetles live in dead old oak trees there.

The people who discovered it gave it the Dutch name vermiljoenkever, vermilion beetle.
