Rare shell on Texel island beach

First on Texel beach – 03/12/11

Donna Veenekamp from Alphen aan den Rijn discovered a Texel first. On 19 February, on the beach near Ecomare, she found a Gari fervensis seashell. This species was never found on Texel. This is not surprising, because the animal does not live in the North Sea. They live further south, including in Spain and France. However, they are occasionally found around the North Sea. Probably they came along with floating objects such as buckets and fish crates.
