Bush plans United States war on Iran, Seymour Hersh writes

This video from the USA is called: Seymour Hersh on planned invasion of Iran.

From British daily The Guardian:

US accused of drawing up plan to bomb Iran

Suzanne Goldenberg in Washington

Monday February 26, 2007

President George Bush has charged the Pentagon with devising an expanded bombing plan for Iran that can be carried out at 24 hours’ notice, it was reported yesterday.

An extensive article in the New Yorker magazine by the investigative journalist Seymour Hersh describes the contingency bombing plan as part of a general overhaul by the Bush administration of its policy towards Iran.

It said a special planning group at the highest levels of the US military had expanded its mission from selecting potential targets connected to Iranian nuclear facilities, and had been directed to add sites that may be involved in aiding Shia militant forces in Iraq to its list.

U.S. Funds Being Secretly Funneled To Violent Al Qaeda-Linked Groups

New Yorker columnist Sy Hersh says the “single most explosive” element of his latest article involves an effort by the Bush administration to stem the growth of Shiite influence in the Middle East (specifically the Iranian government and Hezbollah in Lebanon) by funding violent Sunni groups.

Hersh says the U.S. has been “pumping money, a great deal of money, without congressional authority, without any congressional oversight” for covert operations in the Middle East where it wants to “stop the Shiite spread or the Shiite influence.” Hersh says these funds have ended up in the hands of “three Sunni jihadist groups” who are “connected to al Qaeda” but “want to take on Hezbollah.”

Hersh summed up his scoop in stark terms: “We are simply in a situation where this president is really taking his notion of executive privilege to the absolute limit here, running covert operations, using money that was not authorized by Congress, supporting groups indirectly that are involved with the same people that did 9/11.”

Hersh added, “All of this should be investigated by Congress, by the way, and I trust it will be. In my talking to membership — members there, they are very upset that they know nothing about this. And they have great many suspicions.”

Raise your hand if you know …

    1. After 9/11, Iran helped us fight against Al Qaeda in Afghanistan.

    2. Al Qaeda is primarily Sunni

    3. Iran is primarily Shiite

    4. Iran hates Al Qaeda

    5. Iran would NOT be likely to arm or assist Al Qaeda in Iraq, since Al
Qaeda is helping the Sunnis in Iraq

    6. Saudi Arabia is primarily Sunni

    7. The Bushes are long-time friends and business partners with the Saudi
    royal family

    8. Fifteen of the nineteen Al Qaeda (primarily Sunni) terrorists who
flew airliners into the World Trade Towers and the Pentagon on 9/11 were
    Saudis

    9. Bush is now sending millions if not billions of dollars to groups
allied with Al Qaeda (the Sunnis), so that Al Qaeda will fight against Iran.

10.. Bush has convinced most Americans that it is Iran that is arming Al
Qaeda when, in fact, it is Bush himself who is arming Al Qaeda.

    11. Bush is arming both sides in the Sunni-Shia regional war.

How did you fare on this test?

I suspect you did better than most Americans would, but that is what is
so alarming — that most Americans believe Bush’s lies.

  2. Dear friends,

From New York to Baghdad, Madrid to Beirut, talk is rising of a ‘clash of
civilizations’ between the West and Islam — no end in sight to the catastrophe
in Iraq, a war brewing between the US and Iran, Lebanon being torn apart
again, and still no real Israeli-Palestinian talks. But we know this clash is not
about religion or culture. The real cause is politics – the politics of divide-and-
    conquer, on all sides.

This is not the world we want. But it´s the world we´ll end up with, unless we
act now. It’s time for the peaceful majority – us – to make a stand. So watch
our new ‘Stop the Clash’ video now for a fresh, empowering take on these
conflicts, and a concrete first step we can all take today:

    http://www.avaaz.org/en/stop_the_clash

According to the UN among others, the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is the
driving symbol of this “clash” between Islam and the West. But opinion polls
show most people around the world agree that the policy is the problem – big
majorities everywhere want peace in the Middle East, as do most Israelis and
Palestinians. If progress toward peace is made there, it will spread.

So let’s take the first step, and call for REAL Middle East peace talks now.
Click below to join the campaign:

    http://www.avaaz.org/en/stop_the_clash

Tens of thousands of people have already signed the petition and supported
an ad that ran on the front page of the Financial Times worldwide and in major
    Palestinian and Israeli newspapers.

Now we need to raise the pressure, ratcheting up to a major international day
of action on June 5th – the 40th anniversary of the 1967 war that began the
occupation. We want to hit every international summit and decision moment
from now till then with the same demand. Can you help get us to 50,000 new
voices for peace in the next 24 hours?

    http://www.avaaz.org/en/stop_the_clash

We agree on what matters most. We all oppose war, tyranny, terror and the
killing of innocent civilians. We know these conflicts are caused not by some
inevitable culture clash, but by bad politics. The ‘Stop the Clash’ video is a
good way to remind friends, family and colleagues of the big picture of all we
share – and signing the Real Talks petition is a step every one of us can take.
So click above to see Avaaz’s new “Stop the Clash” video, spread the word,
    and act now…

    With hope,

Paul, Galit, Hannah, Ricken, Tom, Jeremy, Graziela, Lee-Sean, Andrea,
Nicole, Iain, David and the whole Avaaz.org team
