This 3 October 2020 photo by Dutch photographer Beverfoto shows a tufted duck in danger of being killed by a herring gull, being saved by a young black-headed gull.
The herring gull caught the duck three times. But first a great egret, then the black-headed gull intervened. After the third time, the herring gull gave up, and the duck swam on.
A video of this would have been very interesting, Dear Kitty. Nature continues to surprise and surprise!

They were wonderful images, Dear Kitty. Lucky little duck! The great egret’s behaviour was so unusual. Or was it?
