Common nighthawk, United States Bird of the Year

Not just the Netherlands has a Bird of the Year in 2013 (the grey partridge).

The USA has one as well.

This video from the USA says about itself:

Macaulay Library Curator Greg Budney shares a close encounter he had with a Common Nighthawk as it called and produced sizzling wing sounds just over his head.

From 10,000 Birds blog:

The 2013 ABA Bird of the Year has been announced. Congratulations to the Common Nighthawk! It’s a nice bird, though no Green Heron.

It’s well worth clicking over to the ABA Blog and checking out the video announcing the 2013 selection.
