Cave-dwelling cichlids found in Lake Malawi

Two new species of cave-dwelling cichlids have been described in the most recent issue of the journal Ichthyological Exploration of Freshwaters.

Rachel Cleaver, Adrianus Konings and Jay Stauffer name the two new species Otopharynx spelaeotes and O. antron.

  1. Hi Jan, I agree. By the way, the picture, as the caption (visible if you move your mouse across the picture) says, is of another Otopharynx species, related to the two newly discovered species.

  4. Hi eddie, as you see at the upper right of my blog I have few links right now. This is because I have not yet found out how to organize links into sections by subject at this blog. As long as that problem is not solved yet I am not adding links because then all sorts of links would be in a rather chaotic order.

  5. That’s an astonishing fish, might be legendary too with it’s beautiful coloration might due to environment changing or fish evolution.
