Pandas cause baby boom

(Novum/AP) – Threatened giant pandas are having a baby boom.

This year, thirty animals were born in captivity, a record number.

In a Japanese zoo, a female gave birth to twins.

A Chinese expert has declared that never before so many pandas have been born in zoos.

Most were born in China, the only country where the rare animal also still lives the wild.

Over 1500 pandas live there outside zoos.

Zoos have 180, all born in captivity.
