Italy: manuscript by Boccaccio discovered

BoccaccioFrom Dutch news agency ANP:

An Italian woman scholar has found a manuscript in Florence, which was probably written by Giovanni Boccaccio (1313-1375).

It is a writing on love, four sonnets, a ballad, and various poems, with the year 1372 written on them.

The newspaper Corriere della Sera published this.

Boccaccio is considered to be one of the most important humanists.

In his famous Decameron he depicted fourteenth century society with realism and humour.

He may have written the texts for a younger friend.

This discovery was preceded by years of investigation and detective work.
