PVV local councilor in Emmen gets community service sentence for fabricated threats

PVV councilor Martijn Storm from Emmen has been convicted of making a false declaration. He reported to the police in June last year that he was being threatened. Storm has now received a community service sentence of 150 hours and a suspended prison sentence of one week.

In the declaration, the 31-year-old councilor stated that he was harassed at night by an anonymous caller. He told regional broadcaster RTV Drenthe last year that the threats had begun after the PVV had argued in a meeting for a ban on religious expressions, such as kippahs and headscarves, in the council chamber. …

In the investigation into the anonymous phone calls, the police encountered inconsistencies in Storm’s statements.

Not present at the trial

It is not clear why the politician filed a false declaration. Storm did not appear in court and did not speak with the probation service. The judge said that she is therefore unable to assess the likelihood of recurrence. As a precaution, she therefore imposed a suspended prison sentence.

Dutch Wilders’ Islamophobic sidekick converts to Islam

Translated from Dutch daily Algemeen Dagblad today:

It may be about the largest possible ideological gap to bridge, but again it happens: Joram van Klaveren, former PVV politician, has converted to Islam. …

Van Klaveren was once the right hand man of PVV leader Geert Wilders, advocated a burqa ban, a ban on minarets and a ‘de-Islamization‘ of the Netherlands.

But now he knows two suras (chapters) of the Quran, Mohammed is his prophet and he goes through life as a Muslim, says Van Klaveren today in interviews with NRC Handelsblad daily and This is the day EO TV show.

Van Klaverens’s remarkable conversion is the final part of his search for the backgrounds and meaning of Islam, in the context of his new book. That was supposed to become an Islam-critical work, but during the study Van Klaveren’s view on religion changed radically …

“I have contributed to maintaining and nurturing a bad image of Islam, but you can not imagine how these prejudices work until you have to deal with them yourself.”

Van Klaveren, raised in a Protestant Reformed family, was member of parliament for the PVV from 2010 to 2014 and was considered a hardliner. After [a conflict] he left the party and started with fellow ex-PVV MP Louis Bontes the new right-wing party For the Netherlands (VNL). VNL won zero seats in the 2017 elections and Bontes and Van Klaveren pulled the plug. …

Earlier, the former PVV local councillor Arnoud van Doorn had converted to Islam.

Anti-xenophobia rebellion in Dutch xenophobic party

Shirley Soenjoto, Dutch Purmerend local councillor

On 20 January 2019, Nadia Ezzeroili wrote in Dutch daily De Volkskrant about Geert Wilders’ xenophobic PVV party.

This party strongly supports deporting refugees.

However, last week there turned out to be an exception to that among local councillors in Purmerend town. Of the three elected PVV council members, now local leader Ms Shirley Soenjoto and Rob van Dongen want to stop the government deporting refugee children who grew up in the Netherlands.

The leftist parties in parliament wanted that already years earlier. So did two of the four parties in the right-wing government coalition: the Christian Union and D66. However, in the coalition agreement, these two parties gave in to the Big Business VVD party and the conservative Christian CDA party, who wanted a harsher policy.

The pro-refugee statement by Soenjoto and Van Dongen led to sarcastic comments that in the CDA there was now less Christian charity than in the far-right PVV.

This week, the CDA parliamentary caucus changed its mind. So, now three out of the four coalition parties say that they want a less harsh policy. However, the VVD does not. It is still uncertain what the government will do.

Ms Soenjoto is from a Christian mixed Dutch-Indonesian background. Her and Van Dongen’s unexpected pro-refugee stand caused a conflict with the third PVV council member and with national party leader Wilders. Wilders says Soenjoto and Van Dongen no longer have the right to call themselves PVV.

However, Ms Soenjoto says that she never got any message of being sacked from the PVV. Sacking someone from the PVV is a bit of an iffy issue, as the party has officially just one member, Wilders.

Translated from De Volkskrant:

Shirley: ‘At national level the PVV did not want to talk about solutions at all. We were expected to only talk about Islamization in the city council. But I wanted to find a connection and talk to the Islamic community.’

Didn’t Shirley Soenjoto join the wrong party? A friend says: ‘She is rather naive’.

Dutch Wilders party politician advocates burning refugees

This photo shows Emil Smeding, local councillor of Geert Wilders‘ xenophobic PVV party in Delfzijl town.

Last weekend, there was a fire in housing for refugees in Ter Apel. On the Facebook page of regional broadcaster RTV Noord, Mr Smeding reacted to that news item by advocating to throw petrol on the fire to make it worse.

RTV Noord removed that comment. Smeding got many angry reactions. He at first reacted to that by doubling down on his racist advocacy of arson.

However, after more upset reactions, Smeding decided to resign as council member.

Dutch Wilders party candidate calls Obama ‘monkey’

This video from the USA says about itself:

UTRECHT – Again there has been an uproar about candidates who participate in the municipal elections for the PVV. This time it turns out that Rob Jansen, number 4 on the list in Utrecht, applied the labels ‘a gentleman and a monkey’ to Donald Trump and Barack Obama respectively.

… In addition, Jansen is said to have bombarded a Socialist Party local council member from Oss with harassment. After a discussion on Twitter about political terminology, he decided to publish the phone number of SP member Martijn Tonies.
