McCain flip-flops from Gadaffi crony to Libya warmonger

This video from the USA says about itself:

26 April 2011

Sen. John McCain yesterday became the highest profile U.S. official to visit Libya since international military intervention began, and gave a hearty endorsement to the rebels fighting the Gadhafi government … “They are my heroes,” he said … he called his visit “one of the most exciting and inspiring days of my life”.

….McCain‘s last visit to Libya was very different, and it’s amazing that U.S. media outlets reporting on his remarks yesterday are pretending this other visit never occurred. It was just 18 months ago that McCain traveled to Libya and cozied up to Gadhafi, visiting with him at the dictator’s home in Tripoli, shaking his hand, and even bowing a little to Gadhafi:

The point of the meeting was for McCain to discuss delivery of American military equipment to the Libyan regime. I guess the rebels didn’t hear about this? And that American media outlets simply forgot it happened?

Politics Daily (August 2009): Sen. John McCain, visiting Libya this past week, praised Muammar Gaddafi for his peacemaking efforts in Africa. In addition, McCain called for the U.S. Congress to expand ties with Gaddafi’s government, according to Libya’s state news agency. McCain had a face-to-face meeting with Gaddafi, which he detailed on his Twitter page with the following message:

“Late evening with Col. Qadhafi at his “ranch” in Libya — interesting meeting with an interesting man.”

New McCain cartoon

McCain cartoon by Mikhaela

This is a new McCain cartoon by Mikhaela in the USA.

On the eve of the last presidential election debate, Republican candidates John McCain and Sarah Palin face big losses in public opnion polls because of their negative campaigning and racism among their supporters.

As for the “Hussein” in the cartoon, that’s not Saddam Hussein whom McCain’s top adviser William Timmons used to work for.

Saddam crony Timmons now McCain crony

William TimmonsBy Murray Waas in the USA:

McCain Transition Chief Aided Saddam In Lobbying Effort

William Timmons, the Washington lobbyist who John McCain has named to head his presidential transition team, aided an influence effort on behalf of Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein to ease international sanctions against his regime.

The two lobbyists who Timmons worked closely with over a five year period on the lobbying campaign later either pleaded guilty to or were convicted of federal criminal charges that they had acted as unregistered agents of Saddam Hussein‘s government.

During the same period beginning in 1992, Timmons worked closely with the two lobbyists, Samir Vincent and Tongsun Park, on a previously unreported prospective deal with the Iraqis in which they hoped to be awarded a contract to purchase and resell Iraqi oil. Timmons, Vincent, and Park stood to share at least $45 million if the business deal went through.

Timmons’ activities occurred in the years following the first Gulf War, when Washington considered Iraq to be a rogue enemy state and a sponsor of terrorism. His dealings on behalf of the deceased Iraqi leader stand in stark contrast to the views his current employer held at the time. …

Moreover, there was a major financial incentive at play for Timmons. The multi-million dollar oil deal that he was pursuing with the two other lobbyists would only be possible if their efforts to ease sanctions against Iraq were successful.

This puts McCain’s support for a hundred years of war in Iraq in a … errrr … strange light indeed.

This after earlier revelations of links of the McCain election campaign to dictators in Myanmar, in Georgia, and Iran … yeah, McCain’s “bomb bomb Iran“.

McCain’s negative campaigning, Mark Fiore animation

This video from the USA says about itself:

McCains Economic Plan: ‘Everyone Marry A Beer Heiress’

McCain pointed to his personal success in marrying a wealthy beer heiress to prove how the plan could benefit every American.

There is a new Mark Fiore animation on the Internet.

It is about United States Republican presidential candidate John McCain‘s negative campaigning: McCain avoids talking about the economic crisis as he does not know much about economics. Instead, he thinks personal attacks on Obama are his only chance of winning.

US students protest McCain/Palin convention

This video from the USA is called The protesters marching at the RNC in St.Paul, 2008.

From Infoshop in the USA:

Contact: Ty Moore @ 612.760.1980

[TWIN CITIES – Thursday September 4th] Thousands of college and high school students are walking out of class on the final day of the RNC, to demand an end to the occupation in Iraq and money for schools, not war. Students are converging on the steps of the State Capitol for a rally and mock trial. Police have already detained volunteers handing out leaflets for the strike and high school administrators have warned student organizers about organizing a walkout.

Organizers anticipate thousands of students to walkout and convergence to the State Capitol for a rally featuring music and various speakers at 12 PM and will conclude with a peaceful march to Harriet Island to join demonstrators for the Peace Island Picnic and a symbolic mock trial of the war criminals. The trial itself will be audience-interactive and feature testimony from the real-life victims of the government’s actions, including members of Military Families Speak Out. The verdict will be decided at Harriet Island, where all in attendance will be the given the role of the jury to decide the fate of the war criminals, represented by giant puppets of Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, and Big Oil Bob.

The message of the student strike will be clear: The presence and policies of the RNC officials is unwelcome here. While the cities of Minneapolis and St. Paul roll out the red carpet for the convention, “we say no to business as usual while the people responsible for the killing of hundreds of thousands of ordinary Iraqis, Afghans, and U.S. soldiers come to our city to plot their next steps” said Desarae Walker, a sophomore at the University of Minnesota. “We are tired of paying for a war with no end in sight.”

Youth Against War and Racism, a Twin Cities-based high school anti-war and counter-military recruitment group. This will be the 4th walkout in the last 3 years organized by YAWR. Previous walkouts have drawn up to 2000 youth from the Twin Cities and surrounding suburbs in spirited, enthusiastic displays of civic engagement and opposition to the war in Iraq. Youth Against War and Racism’s most recent victories include winning restrictions on military recruiters in Minneapolis high schools in February 2008.

Palin, albatross around McCain’s neck

This video from the USA is called Sarah Palin, Amy Goodman and the Unfounding of the USA.

By Patrick Martin in the USA:

New revelations on VP choice heighten crisis of McCain campaign

3 September 2008

After a series of politically damaging reports about Alaska Governor Sarah Palin and her family, there is mounting speculation that Republican presidential candidate John McCain may be forced to replace her as his vice presidential running mate. As ABC News asked on its web site, “how long a trip is it from there to Tom Eagleton/Harriet Miers territory?” (both nominees who were compelled to withdraw.)

The candidate herself has not been heard from since her first weekend of campaigning with McCain. She has given only a single media interview—a family-oriented piece of puffery in People magazine, conducted last Friday—and will apparently accept the vice presidential nomination at Wednesday night’s session of the Republican convention without having answered a single press inquiry about her qualifications or political views.

Palin cancelled the one public appearance she was scheduled to make—a speech to the Republicans for Life caucus, a grouping of the most fanatical anti-abortion activists headed by Phyllis Schafly. The group had planned to give Palin an award for her opposition to abortion rights even before the vice presidential selection was announced.

On Monday, Palin and her husband Todd issued a brief written statement acknowledging that their oldest daughter Bristol, 17, was pregnant and planning to marry the father of her unborn child, subsequently identified as Levi Johnston, 18, a former hockey star at Wasilla High School.

While one cannot but feel sympathy for the two young people, barely more than children, now the subject of a media frenzy, there is little basis for extending that sympathy to Governor Palin or the array of reactionary, moralizing preachers and pundits who have suddenly discovered the value of privacy (something they routinely deny to young pregnant women who make a different choice than Bristol Palin).

As for claims that the candidate’s children should be off-limits in the campaign, Palin made her model family the main selling point on her fitness for the vice presidency, speaking at length of her son’s enlistment in the military and deployment in Iraq and her own efforts to combine motherhood and a political career.

Madonna compares McCain to Hitler

This 2003 music video from the USA is the original American Life video by Madonna, un-edited.

From Dutch NOS TV (translated):

Mega pop star Madonna in her new world tour ‘The Sticky & Sweet Tour’ equates United States presidential candidate McCain with Hitler and Mugabe.

Pictures of those three men are visible on a video screen, after images of destruction and consequences of climate change. Next, there is Barack Obama, in a row of pictures with John Lennon, Al Gore and Gandhi.

Though all historical comparisons are necessarily imperfect, John McCain’s singing Bomb bomb Iran, and
talking about 100 years United States war in Iraq, should set off alarm bells even among United States voters who so far have always voted Republican.

It is a pity that Madonna stopped her 2003 anti Iraq war video “American Life” when Bush actually invaded Iraq.

Paris Hilton for United States President?

This video is called Paris Hilton for President.

It is a video of United States “celebrity” Paris Hilton, jokingly announcing her candidacy for United States President, reacting to John McCain naming her in an anti Barack Obama attack ad.

To become president of the USA, one has to be at least thirty-five years old. So, Paris Hilton and many others cannot really become president.

Even if that rule would be rescinded, there is still the problem of two political parties founded in the nineteenth century, both now dependent on 21st century corporate money, having in practice a political monopoly/”duopoly” in the USA. Even for people with lots of money, like Ross Perot and to a lesser extent Paris Hilton, it is extremely hard to break that monopoly. Let alone for people with no money and a lot more and a lot better ideas than Perot or Hilton.
