Coronavirus disaster in Trump’s and Pence’s USA

This 9 May 2020 video from India says about itself:

COVID-19 scare in the White House

U.S Vice President Mike Pence‘s press secretary Katie Miller has tested positive for COVID-19. The diagnosis of Katie Miller has raised an alarm about the spread of coronavirus within the White House. Katie Miller is married to President Donald Trump‘s aide Stephen Miller who is working as White House Immigration Adviser.

The social desperation of millions of people in the United States is being used by the ruling class to compel a return to work amidst the expanding coronavirus pandemic: here.

Striking workers demand coronavirus protection

Strikes and workers’ protests mount against “back to work” campaign. By Shannon Jones, 9 May 2019. The incompetence and callous disregard for human life by the capitalist authorities in country after country is fueling an upsurge in the class struggle.

Why are thermal imaging cameras being deployed in US workplaces? By Kevin Reed, 9 May 2020. Since many infected people are asymptomatic, thermal imaging scanners in workplaces have more to do with the erection of a repressive apparatus than with fighting the pandemic.

Number of COVID-19 cases hits 4 million worldwide. By Benjamin Mateus, 9 May 2020. The number of deaths has exceeded 275,000 and infections are growing. Yet, the stock markets continue to rise, despite unprecedented job losses.

Children in US and UK dying from syndrome linked to COVID-19. By Jacob Crosse, 9 May 2020. At least two children in the US and one in the UK have died from the newly identified pediatric multisystem inflammatory syndrome, which is believed to be related to COVID-19.

US state governments of Virginia and Maryland plan to reopen businesses. By Ray Coleman and Nick Barrickman, 9 May 2020. Despite lack of scientific evidence that the pandemic has been contained, Virginia and Maryland governments have announced plans to begin reopening businesses this week.

Over the past two weeks, an emergency medical technician and an ER doctor working in New York City, the hardest-hit region in the US, committed suicide after an avalanche of COVID-19 patients began flooding New York City’s hospitals and emergency rooms. Psychiatric experts are warning that these tragic deaths could very well be a harbinger for an intensifying mental health crisis in the US, especially as federal officials and state governments move to reopen the economy and risk the lives of millions with a still rising infection rate: here.

COVID-19 cases skyrocket among the US homeless population. By Renae Cassimeda, 9 May 2020. Infection rates are rising among the homeless, many of whom are dying in the shadows and will not be counted in the COVID death toll.

  1. There is no reason to believe that fewer people will die in this pandemic, than in the pandemic of 1918, when 670, 000 Americans died. In the absence of a vaccine, we can only hope that modern hospital techniques will reduce this to, say, 300, 000. Recent guesstimates suggest that above 100, 000 have already died, and there’s still a year to go. Open everything up now, and the genie is out of the bottle.

    • Yes. 1918 was called the ‘Spanish flu’, though it started in a military barracks in Kansas, USA during World War I. It was called ‘Spanish’ because in neutral Spain there was no military censorship.

  4. The coronavirus pandemic is a crisis like we’ve never seen before. So unsurprisingly, pharmaceutical corporations are trying to profit off this crisis—and unfortunately they have some key allies in the White House.

While there are many pharma jerks who are trying to ensure corporations can profiteer off of this crisis, here are five who need to be called out right now:

    Daniel O’Day
O’Day is the CEO of Gilead Sciences. Gilead is currently trying to see if remdesivir, an antiviral drug, can be used to treat COVID-19. Not only was remdesivir developed with taxpayer money (like all US drugs), but Gilead tried to get a seven year monopoly on remdesivir and only backed down after public outcry.

    Alex Azar
Azar is the former CEO of Eli Lilly, the infamous insulin price gouger.During his tenure as head of Eli Lilly, insulin prices doubled. Now, he serves as Trump’s Secretary of Health and Human Services. Azar would not commit to ensuring any COVID-19 treatments or vaccines would be free or affordable—clearly putting his pharma friend’s interests over the health of the American people.

    Joe Grogan
Grogan is the director of the United States Domestic Policy Council, an assistant to President Donald Trump, and is on the Coronavirus Task Force. Grogan is also a former Gilead lobbyist. Wonder why Gilead was given the seven year monopoly on a COVID-19 treatment…

    Ian Reed
Reed is the CEO of Pfizer Inc., a pharma corporation working on a COVID-19 vaccine. Pfizer is a notorious price gouger, even on cancer treatments. They cannot be trusted.

    Alex Gorsky
Gorsky is the CEO of Johnson & Johnson, a pharma corporation also working on a COVID-19 vaccine. And just like Pfizer, J&J is of course a shameless price gouger, including their cancer treatment. They also cannot be trusted.

Tell pharma jerks to put people’s lives first. We can’t allow any profiteering off of the COVID-19 pandemic.

  5. Months ago Trump dishonestly claimed that “Anybody who wants a test can get a test,” since “yesterday.” It wasn’t true then, it certainly wasn’t true the day before that, and it’s still not true now.

But inside the White House it’s a very different story. Now that multiple people who had been close to Trump and Pence have been confirmed infected with coronavirus, they are bragging that they are getting tested EVERY day, along with anyone else who might get within 6 feet of them.

Contrast that to the response of the latest secretary of lying to the press, Kayleigh McE-Ninny (if the ad hominem fits, wear it), when asked if all Americans shouldn’t be tested for the virus now. Her response was to callously ridicule the whole idea, making the patently stupid argument that it would be pointless unless people were tested every hour on the hour.

The whole point of testing everybody is to get infected people, symptomatic or not, into quarantine, so they aren’t running around infecting large numbers of additional people. A single test for everyone in America would have a massive impact in this regard.

And the whole reason why we now need to test literally everyone in America is because the criminal negligence of Trump and his squad of designated congenital liars has brought us to this calamitous juncture, where this pandemic is already so completely out of control. After squandering at least four months already by his delinquent inaction, not only is Trump not interested in doing the one thing that might save what’s left of us now, across the board testing, he is even aggressively hostile to doing any such thing.

Except within the White House itself. There Trump will do whatever he thinks might save himself . . . himself . . . HIMSELF. While the rest of us are supposed to play daredevils out here. All while the upward slope of the national infection rate has barely been disturbed, even as most states recklessly reopen. After all, hasn’t Trump told them, “Hey, you guys are all on your own.” (essential paraphrase).

Trump actually said this in the Oval Office yesterday, “In a way, by doing all of this testing, we’re making ourselves look bad.” What does that say about the White House, the only place in the country doing anything even remotely approaching the needed level of testing? How does that look to the rest of the inadequately tested country? Indeed, why is any member of the press still asking Trump any question expecting an answer more intelligent than they would get from a howling chimpanzee?

Some speculate about whether the virus might come back in the fall. It’s not going to come “back” at this rate because it’s not even going to significantly slow down overall. And in the fall it will be even worse, thanks to Trump’s abdication of any kind of leadership.

The worst has not even started yet.

In the meantime, hey, White House staffers, it’s 1 P.M., time for another one of your hourly coronavirus tests. That means you too, Kayleigh.
