Brazilian space scientist sacked for deforestation science

This 2015 National Geographic video is called Wild Amazon Documentary HD.

Translated from Dutch NOS TV today:

Top Brazilian official who demonstrated deforestation in the Amazon sacked

The sharp debate in Brazil about deforestation in the Amazon region has cost director Ricardo Galvão of the space research agency his head. Yesterday, Minister Pontes of Science told Galvão that his position had become untenable.

The Space Research Agency (INPE) announced last month that the illegal logging in the Brazilian part of the rainforest under President Bolsonaro has increased enormously. According to the INPE, 920 square kilometers of Amazon forest have been lost – an increase of 88 percent compared to last year.

President Bolsonaro contradicts that. …

Since taking office in January, the extreme right president has regularly collided with environmentalists. The president wants to sacrifice large parts of the Amazon for livestock ranching, soy and mining.
