Bayer sentenced again for cancer causing Roundup

This 1 September 2018 video from the USA is called Monsanto Getting Sued By VIETNAM [for Agent Orange, still killing Vietnamese and United States and other Vietnam war veterans].

Monsanto is Bayer by now.

This 27 March 2019 video from the USA says about itself:

$80 million awarded to man who jury says got cancer after Roundup exposure

(CNN) A federal jury has awarded $80 million to a California man after determining that Monsanto‘s popular weedkiller, Roundup, was a substantial factor in causing his cancer, and that the corporation is liable.

The jury in San Francisco awarded compensatory damages at $5.27 million and punitive damages of $75 million to the plaintiff, Edwin Hardeman. During the first phase of the trial last week, the jury dealt a blow to Monsanto, saying Roundup was a substantial factor in causing Hardeman’s non-Hodgkin lymphoma.

Edwin Hardeman claims Roundup caused his cancer. A federal jury in San Francisco sided with him. The second phase focused on the question of Monsanto‘s legal responsibility, and what damages if any should be awarded. Hardeman claimed that Roundup‘s design was defective, that the product lacked sufficient warning of potential risks and that Monsanto had been negligent in not warning about risks. …

“It is clear from Monsanto‘s actions that it does not care whether Roundup causes cancer, focusing instead on manipulating public opinion and undermining anyone who raises genuine and legitimate concerns about Roundup“, the statement said.

Glyphosate increases cancer risk by 41%, [a new] study [by the University of Washington] says.

Translated from Dutch NOS TV today:

Again millions damage compensation due to cancer caused by Roundup

A US American jury has awarded over 80 million dollars in damages to a man from California who says he got cancer through the use of weed killer Roundup.

The 70-year-old man used the stuff in his garden for almost thirty years and got a rare form of lymph node cancer. The jury says that chemical company Bayer (formerly Monsanto) that produces Roundup is responsible for that. Last week the jury ruled that Roundup had caused the cancer in the man.

It is expected that the jury’s verdict will guide hundreds of other lawsuits against Bayer. The corporation will appeal.

It is the second time that Bayer has to pay a sum of millions due to Roundup. A former caretaker of a school received $ 78 million in compensation. At first, that amount would be much higher, but that was later reduced.

Public

Bayer maintains that glyphosate is not carcinogenic and says all studies confirm this.

Maybe ‘all studies’ paid by Monsanto/Bayer do so. Definitely untrue for, eg, the aforementioned new study by the University of Washington, and for research by the International Agency for Research on Cancer of the World Health Organisation research into this.

European Union judges ruled early this month that studies into the toxicity of the active substance glyphosate should be made public.

Roundup is sold in more than 160 countries.
