This 6 September 2018 video from the USA says about itself:
Via America’s Lawyer: Mike Papantonio and Trial Magazine Executive Editor Farron Cousins discuss the latest with Amazon and just how bad the workers at Amazon have it, and why CEO Jeff Bezos is desperate to hide that truth from the public.
Translated from Belgian daily De Standaard, 5 March 2019:
For the second consecutive year, Bezos is the number one among the billionaires, Forbes calculated. His fortune has grown by 19 billion dollars in the last twelve months. But it is questionable for how long Bezos will be able to maintain his status as the richest man in the world. At the beginning of this year he announced his divorce from his wife MacKenzie Bezos and we don’t know yet which part of his assets will go to the ex-wife.
Three Belgian billionaires
New names among the Belgian billionaires. No more Albert Frère. The Walloon entrepreneur died in December last year.
The first Belgian on the Forbes list is now Eric Wittouck, with riches estimated at 7.6 billion dollars. That is the 191th place worldwide. The Wittouck family first made a fortune with Tiense Suiker [sugar]. Afterwards, Eric Wittouck was able to boost his wealth thanks to Invus, a private equity firm in New York that invested in Weight Watchers and Blue Buffalo Pet Products.
The Wittouck family owns the Tienen sugar refinery ever since the 19th century. So, first getting rich by making people fat with beet sugar from Tienen. Then, getting even richer by sending the people who became fat from Tienen sugar to Weight Wachers.
In 2015, United States psychology professor Traci Mann wrote in The Cut, “People give Weight Watchers the credit when they lose weight. Then they regain the weight and blame themselves. This sets them up to join Weight Watchers all over again, and they do.”
Eric Wittouck sold Blue Buffalo Pet Products in 2017, making a big profit. He lives in Palazzo Leonardo in Monaco. He made news headlines in the Panama Papers scandal; with his tax dodging to buy his luxurious yacht Exuma.
Kazakhgate is a big international money laundering and bribery scandal, involving, eg, the CIA, and the mayor of Waterloo town in Belgium. It is claimed that Uzbek billionaire Patokh Chodiev got the Belgian nationality illegally, to prevent being prosecuted. Like Mr Wittouck, Mr Chodiev was named in the Panama Papers.
The third Belgian is entrepreneur Luc Tack, who as CEO and main owner of the loom manufacturer Picanol and of the chemical corporation Tessenderlo Group has made 1.4 billion.
Only 243 women
Forbes now counts 2,153 billionaires …
Also striking: the Forbes list has only 243 women.
