  1. As I’m writing to you, California is experiencing refugee crises at both ends of the state. At the southern border, families are seeking asylum from violence and poverty. They are sheltering in tents and being tear gassed by U.S. officials. In northern California, thousands of people who lost their homes in the Camp Fire are now living in tents and in Walmart parking lots, without adequate housing to meet the scale of this disaster.

Two of the largest humanitarian and environmental challenges facing our nation are inextricably linked. We cannot continue to ignore the devastating effects of climate change, which is causing thousands of people in Central America to flee their homes. Climate change will soon drive human migration more than any other event.

Our common humanity and our planet require compassionate immigration policies, a Green New Deal, and leaders who will do the right thing. People like you can unite our country and stop those who seek to divide us by taking action to create a better world. That mission is what Our Revolution is here to support.

Over 600 local groups across the country and around the globe are organizing our communities to build the progressive movement, elect progressive candidates, and transform the Democratic Party. Can you pitch in $5 to Our Revolution’s grassroots organizing efforts today, and help us to ensure that everyone has a voice in shaping the future of our country?

You have proven that real change doesn’t need to come from the top down – local groups have brought it from the grassroots to Congress, state capitols and city halls. Leaders like Congresswomen-elect Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, Deb Haaland, Ilhan Omar and many more are speaking truth to power and challenging the established power structures. We are ready to go further.

We can make radical, positive change right now. Comprehensive immigration reform, with a pathway to citizenship for undocumented people in our country and 100% clean energy in time to save our planet from climate catastrophe – these things are possible, but not without each one of us getting involved. In the next two years, we must do everything in our power to affect this change.

Your support is critical to Our Revolution’s mission of building a progressive movement across this country. Can you make a $5 contribution to Our Revolution’s organizing efforts today?

In years of organizing, what you have taught me is that nothing big gets done without people willing to fight for it. From calls to Congress, rallies and meetings, and the contact from one person to another, you are the power to change the world.

  2. We should be celebrating our first progressive female House Democratic Caucus Chair. Why aren’t we? Because the establishment is afraid of the new blue wave of progressive women of color ready take the political revolution to Wall Street and the corporate donors that still fund the Democratic Party.

Whether you are a Democrat, Republican, Independent, or non-partisan, the injustices within the Democratic Party hurt all of us. Establishment Democrats’ backroom influencers worked against the campaign of progressive icon Congresswomen Barbara Lee in a close 123-113 Caucus vote.

Here is how slowly progress is coming to the United States House: Representative Lee got her start in politics as a delegate for presidential candidate Shirley Chisholm at the 1972 Democratic National Convention. Just 5 years later, Chisholm ran for Caucus Chair in 1977 and received 100 votes.

Black women’s vote share in the election for House Democratic Caucus chair increased by only 13 votes in 41 years. It is time for Democratic leadership to reflect their most loyal base of voters: black women.

Congresswoman Barbara Lee may not be the next House Democratic Caucus Chair, but because of your hard work, she has progressive sisters to help reshape the Democratic Party – women like Congresswomen-elect Ayanna Pressley, Ilhan Omar, Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, Rashida Tlaib, and Deb Haaland. Chip in $5 right now to support our efforts to transform the Democratic Party.

We must continue to push for public policies that make our lives better. We want stronger public schools, Medicare for All, a Green New Deal, and a radical agenda to undo the worst economic inequality in 100 years. We will continue to elect leadership that works for us, even if Congress doesn’t.

Your involvement is the only way we can transform the Democratic Party into the party of the people, not Wall Street and corporations. Chip in $5 so we can put the pressure on Democrats to support a bold progressive agenda today.

    Thank you for taking action.
