‘Saudi regime murdered critical journalist, cut him to pieces’

This Washington Post video in the USA today says about itself:

Saudi Arabia reportedly killed journalist Jamal Khashoggi. We can’t rest until we know the truth.

Turkish officials say Saudi journalist and Washington Post contributor Jamal Khashoggi was killed in the Saudi Consulate in Istanbul. Global Opinions writer Jason Rezaian says that if true, this is a heinous crime by the Saudi government. Read Khashoggi’s columns: here. And here.

Translated from Dutch NOS TV today:

The Turkish authorities say that the disappeared Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi “has not left the consulate of his country in Istanbul” in a normal way. Advisor Yasin Aktay of President Erdogan stated on CNN Turk that he assumes that Khashoggi was killed in the consulate.

A friend of the critical Saudi journalist has stated to The New York Times that Turkish authorities have informed him that Khashoggi was murdered and that his body was cut to pieces.

The journalist went to the Saudi consulate on Tuesday to collect documents for his marriage. When he stayed away for hours, his Turkish girlfriend, who was waiting outside, sounded the alarm. She informed the police.

15 Saudis

According to Erdogan’s adviser Aktay, a group of 15 Saudis is almost certainly involved in the disappearance of Khashoggi. He said the case will not remain unsolved. Aktay insisted on a Saudi statement about the disappearance. …

A year ago, Khashoggi had gone to the United States to become an editor at the Washington Post. He feared that he would be arrested in his homeland because of his criticism of the Saudi actions in Yemen and the way in which protests are suppressed in his own country.

The United States Department of State has a wait and see attitude on this.
