Arthur Jones is the only GOP [Republican] candidate running for an Illinois congressional seat. Cenk Uygur and Ana Kasparian, the hosts of The Young Turks, break it down.
“He’s a Holocaust denier, he’s a white supremacist and he’s set to get the Republican nomination for a major congressional seat in Illinois. Arthur Jones, a Prairie State anti-Semite who has been unsuccessfully running for office for decades, is poised to get closer than ever to office this year after emerging as the only GOP candidate for a congressional spot representing parts of Chicago and its suburbs.
Jones has made no secret of his view that the Holocaust is a “racket”, and he has even made that a prominent part of his latest bid for public office. His campaign website features a page called “Holocaust?” that includes a typed note calling the murder of 6 million Jews by Nazis “the biggest, blackest, lie in history” and falsely claiming there is no proof of the Holocaust beyond “a few professional concentration camp survivors.”
The website also features a page calling the Confederate flag “a symbol of White pride and White resistance” and the LGBT rainbow flag “an attack on traditional Christian morality and religious freedom”.
Twitter erupted after [Trump‘s] Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced that the Justice Department is launching a “religious liberty task force.”
Jones’s campaign includes the slogan “It’s time to put America First!” likely referencing President Donald Trump’s “America First” campaign. Trump’s slogan itself is taken from the America First Committee, an anti-Semitic and non-interventionist group from World War II. Jewish groups including the Anti-Defamation League asked Trump to stop using the phrase during his presidential campaign because of its anti-Semitic origins.”

Seven former student athletes have accused a high-profile Republican congressman, Jim Jordan, of deliberately ignoring serial rape and molestation by their team doctor at Ohio State University, where Jordan was an assistant wrestling coach.1
Not only is Jim Jordan running for re-election, he’s running to be the Speaker of the House of Representatives if Republicans retain control of it.2 That would put Jordan in the most powerful position in government after the President.
Ongoing investigations are revealing a horrific set of facts Jim Jordan had to have known about–specifically that Dr. Richard Strauss, while team doctor at OSU, sexually assaulted countless students in his care from the 1970s to the 1990s. Strauss died in 2005, but the demand for accountability is just beginning.
A rape apologist doesn’t belong in Congress, much less as the second most powerful person in the country. So far, House Republicans are hoping this will blow over while the public is focused elsewhere–we can’t let that happen. Will you sign a petition today demanding Republican leadership denounce Rep. Jordan’s bid for Speaker of the House and demand he resign from office immediately?

One of Strauss’ accusers estimates that he sexually assaulted a minimum of 1,500 students between 1978 and 1998. Several of the former athletes say that they had personally told Rep. Jordan about the abuse and that he had been part of conversations about Strauss’ abuse. He said these athletes were lying and flat out denies he knew anything about Strauss raping students.3
We cannot have a Speaker of the House who allowed a rapist to walk free and deny any survivor justice.
This news has gotten insufficient attention from the public. If tens of thousands speak out against Rep. Jordan’s bid for Speaker, we can call the attention needed to spotlight his role in allowing a serial rapist to hurt young people and pressure Congressional Republicans to reject his run to be the Speaker.
