A mother from El Salvador and her 6-year-old daughter were reunited in Houston Friday morning as part of the court-ordered reunification of separated migrant families.

Cindy Madrid and her daughter Allison Ximena were separated in June on the border.

They became the face of the separated family controversy when the girl was recorded crying for her family at a detention center in McAllen.

Translated from Dutch NOS TV today:

Migrant girl Alison is ‘very grateful to person who leaked audio’

An El Salvadorian girl, who became a symbol for the discussion about US American immigration policy, has been reunited with her mother. The 6-year-old Alison Ximena had been separated from her parents since June. The family had illegally crossed the border via Mexico.

A leaked sound fragment of the crying girl, when she was separated from her parents, focused the discussion. “She is very grateful to the person who leaked the audio”, said mother Cindy Madrid at a press conference.

Alison is very happy to see her mother again, she told journalists.

The mother is proud of her daughter’s perseverance. She has applied for a residence permit because she fears for her safety when she would be sent back to El Salvador.

Trumps’ zero tolerance policy came under fire in June. Last week, a judge in California ruled that illegal

so called. No human being is illegal

immigrant families should not be detained indefinitely.

Border agent cracks joke as children cry inside immigration facility – 24/7 News

18 June 2018

For nearly eight minutes, children are heard crying for their parents as a callous border agent cracks jokes inside what is believed to be an immigration facility along the US-Mexico border. The heartbreaking audio was released Monday afternoon by ProPublica, who says the recording was of a six-year-old girl, Alison Jimena Valencia Madrid, who was separated from her mother last week at a US Customs and Border Protection facility. ‘Well, we have an orchestra here,’ [the border policeman] is heard saying. ‘What’s missing is a conductor.’

This 13 July 2018 video shows the press conference of Cindy Madrid and her daughter.

TRUMP CUTS REFUGEES QUOTA The Trump administration is cutting the number of refugees allowed into the U.S. next year to 30,000. The announcement comes despite calls from global humanitarian groups that this year’s cap of 45,000 was too low. [AP]
