Campaigners gear up for protests as Donald Trump plans Friday 13th visitation to Britain
CAMPAIGNERS vowed today to give Donald Trump the welcome he deserves after the US president confirmed that he will visit Britain in July – on Friday 13th.
While here, Mr Trump will hold talks with Prime Minister Theresa May, the US ambassador to Britain confirmed.
However, it is understood that the long-expected trip will be a “working visit” rather than a full-blown state occasion.
Mr Trump’s arrival is likely to attract major protests. Even his supporters have urged him to stay away from London in an effort to avoid mass demonstrations, and he cancelled a planned visit in February after the scale of likely protests became clear.
Stand Up to Trump campaign group spokesperson Maz Saleem vowed: “We will put on a massive united show of opposition to him arriving in July.”
“Donald Trump is an open racist and sexist, a volatile and dangerous character who seems set on taking the West into further wars”, she told the Morning Star.
Stop the War coalition convener Lindsey German said “Friday 13th will not be a happy one for Trump.
“We can guarantee that he will face demonstrations from the time he lands until the time he leaves.
“There is huge opposition to Trump in Britain – and to his friend Theresa May. Time to end the special relationship.”

Together Against Trump has already called a mass protest on 13 July. This is a new formation which brings together the Stand Up To Trump coalition of anti-racist and anti- war groups, and the Stop Trump grouping launched by Guardian columnist Owen Jones. Both organisations have come together for a one-off national demonstration: here.
