NATO boss says more money for wars, support warmongering Turkish regime

This Associated Press video says about itself:

(21 Nov 2016) Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan arrived at the NATO Parliamentary Assembly’s annual session in Istanbul on Monday. Upon arriving, Erdogan was greeted by NATO‘s Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg.

Today, in Dutch daily Trouw, there is an interview with NATO General Secretary Stoltenberg.

He says that the Dutch government has decided to spend 1.4 billion extra on the military, but that is supposedly still not enough. Also, more Dutch people should join the armed forces, Stoltenberg says.

When asked about the (dictatorial) regime in NATO alley Turkey, Stoltenberg replied (translated):

Turkey is an important ally which has played a key role in the fight against [ISIS, the self-styled] Islamic State.

Oh, come on, Mr Stoltenberg, pull the other one! The Erdogan regime in Turkey has cooperated often with ISIS and similar jihadists in Syria; as pointed out by Turkish journalists, arrested for that revelation; by Turkish MPs, many of them arrested as well; by the government of Israel; and by the government of NATO ally Germany (secretly). At the moment, former (??) ISIS fighters help Erdogan’s army in its invasion of northern Syria, as members of the ‘Free Syrian Army’.

Asked about Erdogan’s invasion of Afrin in Syria, Stoltenberg replied by echoing Erdogan’s claim that Turkish and Syrian Kurds are supposedly terrorists:

That is something they had to act against.

What Stoltenberg says now is not that surprising. Already in 2016, he supported Turkish military attacks on northern Syria. And very recently, the Erdogan regime has expressed support for Donald Trump’s military attacks on Syria (though saying it was ‘not enough’ yet). Stoltenberg supports Trump’s attack as well.

ANTI-ARMS campaigners hit back at the Nato leader today after he called on Britain to continue spending on weapons. Nato general secretary Jens Stoltenberg said during a speech in London that he expected Britain to continue playing a major international role after leaving the European Union: here.

‘Violent deportation’ of Kurdish activist sparks protests at Norwegian embassies across Europe. Demonstrators say Gulizar Tasdemir will face torture in Turkey: here.
