Saudi king sacks his Yemen war generals

This video from the USA says about itself:

How Did Bombs Made in Italy Kill a Family in Yemen? | New York Times Investigates

29 December 2017

We followed shipments of bombs from a holiday island in Italy to Saudi Arabia, then found those bombs at the scene of civilian deaths in Yemen. Is Italy capitalizing on a brutal conflict or just doing business?

Translated from Dutch NOS TV today:

Saudi King Salman dismisses military leaders

King Salman of Saudi Arabia has fired his most important military leaders. Presumably, the resignation of the military chief of staff and some other high-ranking army leaders is related to the lingering war in Yemen. In it, Saudi Arabia plays a leading, criticized major role, partly because of the many victims among the civilian population. …

Saudi Arabia is criticized internationally for the bombing. Aid organizations also blame the Saudis for the blockade of harbours and airports, so that emergency aid could not reach civilians for a long time.

Over 10,000 people have died in Yemen in recent years and millions of civilians are adrift. In addition, there is a constant threat of famine in the country and, according to the United Nations, last year there was “the worst cholera outbreak in the world“.

Is this sacking of generals a prelude to stopping this bloody war at last? Or is it a prelude to replacing the bloodthirsty generals with some even more bloodthirsty colonels, promoted to generals, under the illusion that the Saudi absolute monarchy may still ‘win’ this bloodbath with yet more bombs on civilians, more famine and more cholera? We don’t know yet.

If His Majesty Salman would sack his crown prince and son, His Royal Highness Mohammad Bin Salman, the main instigator of this terrible war, then that would really be a good sign for peace.
