Hundreds of thousands of people took to the streets across the country this weekend to mark the first anniversary of
last year’s historic Women’s March protesting President Trump’s inauguration. As Democracy Now! broadcast from the Sundance Film Festival in Park City, Utah, protesters braved freezing temperatures and a snowstorm to take part in a Respect Rally. We feature the voices of longtime women’s rights attorney Gloria Allred and actress Jane Fonda, and speak with actress Tessa Thompson, who played the superhero Valkyrie in the film “Thor”, Samantha “Sam” White in “Dear White People” and Diane Nash in “Selma.”

The third annual Women’s March is this weekend and there are lots of ways to get involved wherever you are!

2018 was a year of ups and downs, amazing displays of power, and crushing heartbreak. As a movement, we’re starting 2019 with a sense of purpose. We’ve got an agenda and control of the House, and we’re going to use it.
Already in 2019 we have plenty of work to do. Trump’s government shutdown over his racist border wall is causing more and more damage, from withholding federal workers’ paychecks–the majority of whom are women–to stopping crucial health care services for over one million American Indian and Alaska Native women. If the shutdown continues, women and children who rely on food assistance could go hungry, domestic violence shelters and other programs to support survivors of domestic sexual violence will lose funding, and millions of families who live in public housing could face eviction–all so Trump can fire up his racist supporters.1 We better be ready to fight this year, because the stakes are high.
The Women’s March is a chance to connect with women’s rights supporters, march in solidarity, and elevate the issues you care about. We are marching for justice for survivors of sexual assault and domestic violence, for abortion access, a fair economy, LGBTQ justice, racial justice, and more.
