DOMINICAN Prime Minister Roosevelt Skerrit said yesterday that the Caribbean island, struggling to recover from Hurricane Maria, is still without power.
He told regional news outlet Telesur English that the hurricane had left at least 25 people dead, with 18 others confirmed missing and 17 more believed so.
“We are 100 per cent without power … There is complete darkness in the country,” said Mr Skerrit.
He hoped that power might be returned to two major hospitals by last night, followed by government services. Hurricane Maria had also destroyed the Commonwealth country’s agricultural sector, he said.
Dominica was a big exporter of bananas, “but agriculture is now at zero, completely at zero,” he added.
